Did Anyone Have a Nice Valentine's Day?

I had a great Valentine’s Day, despite the horrible weather. I went out with three other ladies and spent the day delivering Singing Valentines as a barbourshop quartet. It was so much fun! We sang to a teacher who was on lunch duty with all the first and second graders in the school, we sang in office buildings and saw people popping out of offices and cubicles to watch, we sang at a grocery store to the sound of the scanners going beep! beep! beep!, and we sang at bunch of other places to happy, embarrassed, or teary-eyed recipients (sometimes all three). This is my third year doing Singing Valentines, and I hope to continue for years to come.

Mine could have gone better, but only because my BF is currently halfway across the continent. Aside from that pretty well–he sent me a bouquet of flowers and a bunch of chocolates from a local flower shop, along with a sappy note. For supper I went out with three friends on a non-romantic, non-relationship double date at McDonalds. I think at some point during the night we switched dates though. Then I came home so I could talk to my BF for the rest of the night.

All in all, not a bad day.

It slipped my mind that yesterday was V-Day, really. And I had a sort of a crappy day because of the snow (I’ve declared myself “snowbound” now and am not leaving, and no one can come over, until I can finagle a plow out of someone).

But last Friday my dude and I “celebrated.” He gave me a sapphire ring which is pretty much the only good, real V-Day present I’ve ever gotten in my 15 years of dating. It absolutely floored me and I love it.

I was going to buy him this special beer he wanted but when we got to the store it turns out his friends had gone out and bought the last of it after he bragged to them that I’d found it there! So instead I bought him the single bottle they had left then we went out and met some of his friends that I hadn’t yet met and had a great time. He came back over the next night and I ended up buying him a DVD burner which he is in love with (who can blame him?) and I am very happy with the gift I ended up giving him.

We did the shower-by-candlelight thing and yadda yadda I made him coffee in the morning

So yeah, Valentine’s Day, the day, was probably the worst day of my week thus far but Valentine’s Day the holiday was one of the nicest I’ve ever had.

It dumped tons of snow on us so I got the day off. And he got a half day off. Which is the first time they’ve closed for years, mind you.

All the same, it was fun. He’s into some new subhunting game, and I have gone back to the LOTR game I had on the PS2 and have been diligently playing through. Yesterday I made it all the way to Pelennor Fields.

We did shovel a bit when he came home, but mostly we just relaxed. He had flowers for me, which spruced up the apartment a bit.

add yet another who’s V day got torpedoed by the weather.

the dive master usually takes me out the day before or day after to skip the crowds too. this time, as i’m working a community theater performance this weekend, our dinner plans probably won’t happen until next week.

i did finally get a midnight ‘happy valentine’s day’ phone call, which was nice if a tad late. he’d forgotten what day it was.

he was forgiven, as he’d been shoveling that six feet of snow in his driveway all day.

:: aside to audience ::
How does he (or she, as appropriate) do that?

Got a nice phone call from the ex-wife.

Got an e-card from a woman I am dating and a woman that I used to date.

Got regular emails from two other women that I am dating and one other woman that I used to date.

Spent the night alone. Hiding.

It was great.

We had a terrific dinner date at a restaurant called the Bombay Palace. She gave me a present, although the card stole the show. Her present is being shipped and should be here next week - I got her a stole made in India because we’re planning to go there over the summer.

I know, Indian food, Indian gift, Indian trip is kind of overkill, but I couldn’t get reservations at the Mexican place I called. Couldn’t have turned out better anyway. The food was excellent and the place was great.

My first Valentine’s Day with my new boyfriend was good: he came over Tuesday night and didn’t leave until after midnight, so technically we started the day together (aww). I got the day off from both work and school due to the weather, and we spent the afternoon on IM together. He kept sending me links to funny Valentine’s Day sites. We hadn’t planned to get together because we thought I’d be in school last night, but he asked me if I’d meet him for dinner. I spent 45 minutes clearing off my car only to discover that I was stuck and couldn’t get out of my parking spot. :frowning: That was the only bad part of the day. He was already at the restaurant when I called to say I couldn’t make it, so after he ate he went home and got back on IM and we chatted some more. If we couldn’t see each other, it was the next best thing. And, while I was disappointed about the car being stuck, not seeing each other didn’t really matter to me: like I said we saw each other Tuesday night, and we’ll see each other again tonight and probably most of this weekend.

I just wonder if he’s checked his mail this week: I mailed a card on Monday, but I haven’t heard anything from him about it yet. He’ll get it eventually.

This is my second Valentine’s Day with my boyfriend, but the first time we get to share the day together, since we live so far apart.

He had beautiful tulips delivered, and we went to dinner at the Cheesecake Factory, braving terrible weather and a long wait because he knows I love that place. (I want to kidnap someone from that kitchen and force him to make me potstickers for all eternity.)

And then, of course, we went back home for the hot hot sex, which may or may not have involved his present in some way.
