I seem to remember it being that way, though the only presidential election I was able to participate in during that timeframe was 1996, because I was too young to vote prior to that.
Note that at the end of your timeframe, you have that 2000 election, and you recall how that was. If every election after that has been anxious, you can probably blame that year for setting the stage.
Most NCAA athletes and coaches have election day “off” (well, not off from classes) - in fact, this is why the start of basketball season was moved from Tuesday to Monday.
I was theoretically working today but didn’t have much to do. I will be taking tomorrow off, though. If things aren’t looking good I’ll be way too panicked to function.
It sucks because I have a major project to do at work although its WFH Its a doozy and depending on how things go might be in a tailspin. Ive also gotta get to gym in the am so cant get as inhebriated as Id like to.
Saving grace is Im going on vacay the following week
Well, my resolve to break my habit of eating and drinking to gross excess on Election Night has already shattered, and Kentucky hasn’t even been called yet. Cheers, everyone.
I woke up around 2am this morning, and after resisting for about an hour, finally looked up to see who won the election. Needless to say, I never went back to sleep.
Luckily I work from home, and I’m going to take at least half the day off.
I went to bed pretty late last night, checked the live results right before I did, and even though nothing had been called it was very clear that Trump had won. I did not sleep well.
On the other hand, personally for me the election that will most impact my life is the race for governor in my state, and the correct person won that. And best of all, this is a person who is very anti-Trump, even suing him multiple times when he was AG. With that, even though I’m pretty pessimistic about how the next 4 years are going to go, I feel like I’m going to be able to weather it well enough.
I stopped looking after the post in the Election thread said the Harris camp went silent, watched a little TV (not news) and then went to sleep. I woke-up thinking the worst had occurred and I was not wrong.
I would recommend: Staying away from news coverage for a while, go out for a walk in the fresh air and take a few deep breaths, don’t make any big decisions right now. Go to work like usual and do your thing.
FYI, the person who replaced Bob Ferguson as Atty Gen, Nick Brown, former US Atty, is someone I worked with in Juvenile Diversion (he as a volunteer) while he was a Seattle prosecutor, and I can’t say enough good things about him. We are lucky to have him.
