Can someone explain to me how the de-harnessed “Karen” can still be under the control of the Overlords? Or has she truly gone over to their side, harnessed or not? Seems unlikely that any human would go that route, despite seeing several instances of deharnessed kids wanting their harnesses back.
As ben has shown - even de-harnessed they can communicate with teh skitters/overlords - and its only when they decide to stop usng them do they get to ‘be themselves’ - so, Karen is always talking for them - I’d say its only the writing that lets her be ‘glib’ about it - I doubt she has any real control.
So how does Ben have free will?
He was rescued. Perhaps the aliens have some other implants for Karen. Was she harnessed longer than Ben? I don’t remember what became of the little girl they found, whose “brother” came after her.
perhaps he was allowed to have it, by his skitter keeper (was it always the red eye/rebel?). since the rebels have some semblance of free-will, maybe they allowed their younglings to retain some as well?
I think it was because Karen’s harness was removed by the aliens as a plot to get her to infiltrate the second mass and get to Ben. They seem to be able to exert control without the harness, the season finale implied they had control of the other son now also.
