No, not exactly…If you’re having trouble I’ll try to make it simpler. What I was asking was whether it’s true that HC didn’t go to any memorials (later amended to two high profile memorials) while Giuliani went to 800. Sorry if I confused you.

Its being so shallow and so easily refuted, as well as self-inconsistent. A serious, well-thought-out lie, intended to become a meme, would have been spread by people with credibility as newspeople rather than entertainers, would have some kernel of truth to it to force any refutation to be about context rather than simple factuality, and wouldn’t be so comically exaggerated as this one.

O’Reilly’s an entertainer. He put a toss-off line into his show to fill air time. Why worry about it?

Using my most basic google-fu, I was able to determine that HC not only attended numerous memorials of all kinds and at different times and places, but that she even gave the eulogy at one for 79 people killed while working in a tower restaraunt.

Thanks for the responses so far. After I read them I remembered that the statement on the show was more like: “She didn’t attend any. Bill O’Reilly confronted her on that. She then attended a few.” Sorry to have overstated the point.

I think the O’Reilly statement is still untrue.

Note that the first one she attended was one of the first ones held, and took place 5 days after 9/11. Hardly enough time for O’Reilly to have “confronted” her, and her to have made any change in her behavior.

Well, this isn’t what I wanted, but what the heck? All I did was write a few words in an OP, and some people are enjoying the “debate” and it’s no big deal to me anyway.

I’m not sure the question was answered, but I’ll leave it at this: HC went to two of them, no one knows how many Giuliani went to. I can live with that. I would have preferred giving the weekday dopers a shot at it, but as I said, it’s no big deal.

I won’t be checking on this thread again as I really have nothing to say about it. I’m not in the mood to get into an argument about HC or Giuliani or O’Reilly or Dennis Miller - though I might start a Dennis Miller thread in CS. As I said, I was just asking a question.

A final thought: Maybe it would be better in the pit. From the last several posts I didn’t see any cohesive sides forming for an argument. It seemed like a few people wanted to bait me or others, by looking for what was behind the question, but no one bit. OTOH I don’t know if there’s a coherent theme for pitting. Maybe the thread should just be closed…Isn’t that what sometimes happens? Mod comes on and says: Question answered thread closed?

Actually, the count appears to be that Senator Clinton went to at least two services while Mayor Giuliani went to some undetermined but almost certainly more services.

I would guess that there is a strong possibility that the sitting mayor of a city who lost around 350 firefighters and police in the line of duty (along with any number of executives of major corporations) would show up at rather more funerals and memorials than a senator whose job kept her in a city 210 miles away conducting the business of the nation including responses to the attack that killed the firefighters and police.

I am not sure what the statement of raw numbers proves (aside from the known dishonesty of Bill O’Relly). What is the proportion of memorial services attended by Senator Clinton vs those attended by Senator Schumer? For that matter, a lot of people from Connecticut died at the WTC; how many memorials did Senator Lieberman attend?

How are you not sure that the question was answered? Your original question, “Did Hillary Clinton attend any 9/11 memorials?” was answered. Yes. Did you have a followup question? If so, it was completely missed, and you might want to consider giving it another shot.
