Did I imagine this weird book?

If anyone can tell me what this book is I’d be very grateful. I used to borrow it from the library and read it repeatedly when I was small and I’d like to read it again but I can only remember a few things about it:

  • It had the word ‘Folly’ in the title and possibly a girls’ name.

  • It involved a little girl finding a strange house with a strange little girl living there and they become friends. I think she finds it by climbing through the hedge?

  • I think mazes were involved.

  • The girl living in the house owned an albino rat.

  • The copy I used to read had a lot of green leaves on the cover.

Can anyone of you clever cabbages help?

I know a lot about children’s books, but in order to help you I’d need the following information:

What age group was the book for?

Was it a picture book or a novel?

About how old is the book?

There’s a book called Phoebe’s Folly but it appears to be about the Oregon Trail and so doesn’t match your description.

It was probably for aroung 8-12 year olds, it was a novel, I was reading it about 10 years and to me the style of writing seemed quite old but I was probably a bit young to judge!

What a messy post: I meant 10 years ago.

Hmm, this is bugging me now because now I want to know what book it is too! There’s a book called “The Ghost of Follonsbee’s Folly” that was written in 1958, but I can’t seem to find a description of it anywhere because it’s so old.

On a side note, my searches brought up a book called Flounder’s Folly that has nothing to do with what you are looking for, but had a description so funny I had to post it:

"In spite of Little Mermaid’s advice, Flounder goes in search of adventure and gets more excitement than he wants. "

Hmm, a wild night for Flounder?

Why does this remind me of Animal House?

This is gonna be great!
