Please help identify children's book

There’s a picture book from my childhood that features a boy going on an adventure using an overturned table as a boat, and fending off pirates using a cannon made from a log that fired pancakes (I want to say they were called flapjacks in the book). I think the mom and dad figured in it too.

My memory is that it rode the line between immersing the reader completely in the fantasy and making it clear that the action was make-believe.

Assuming it was new when I was a kid, it was published in the early 70s.

Thank you for any help!

I’m going to bump my years-old thread, because I would still like an answer if anyone can give one.
