Did I really just see this? Dog tBH to apologize by being buried with slaves...

Regarding, the no term equivalent to “nigger” for white people… I beg to differ and nominate “guinea nigger”.
I’m a white person from all outward appearances, but I reckon my family going back a hundred years and more has had many different shades. I’m kin and part of that and I see no reason why I would have been occluded from the Guinea Nigger term by other West Virginians, my being part and parcel of that heritage.

Does that term refer to all white people? No. has that term been used by non-whites to collectively degrade white people? No. Would anybody unfamiliar with that term assume it even referred to white people? No.

It’s racist in that it’s intended to disparage the perceived lack of white racial “purity” in the subjects. The targets are being derided BY white people for not being perfectly white. It’s more or less eqivalent to “mud people.” It stems from white racism, not white victimization.

Huh. I’ve never heard that term and I’ve lived here all my life. What part of WV are you from?

I actually prefer Cecil Indian over Guinea Nigger, it has a certain ring to it.

A racial slur is only effective when the species in power use it to refer to a species not in power. This, “nigger” has more powerful implications than anything blacks could use to denigrate whites, to the point where blacks use it to denigrate other blacks.

Was Dog known for saying “nigger” a lot prior to this? I assume he wasn’t; otherwise he’d have had the racist reputation before this. Moreover, this is something he said in what he thought were private circumstances. The lesson learned is NOT “Don’t be racist.” The lesson learned is “Don’t say anything into an electronic device that can store your words into a orbital database and broadcast them all over the planet at the touch of a button that you don’t want everybody else to hear.”

I’ve never heard ofay, but I was once called a “white mother-fucker” by a black woman who was apparently upset that I asked her to drive more slowly by the public park where kids (black and white) were playing.

‘Pecker wood’, ‘White Bread’, ‘Honky’…it’s a shame ‘honky’ never stuck.

One of Native American descent. John Wayne uses it nonstop in his classic The Searchers.

I was once called a “honky redneck cracker” by a black lady who was absolutely spitting with fury at me when she said it. Other than that time, I’ve never heard ‘honky’ used in a non-joking manner.

Hmmm. I like “Peckerwood”, but what sort of connotations does it have? When would one use “peckerwood” instead of “redneck”, “cracker”, “hillbilly” and other seemingly related terms? When’s the last time you heard someone use “peckerwood” un-ironicly, and what did they intend it to mean, exactly?

I agree that certain terms for certain white social classes can sting. People can git mighty riled if you go callin’ em peckerwoods or rednecks or other derogatory terms that don’t apply to any non-whites. But it’s a mistake to call these ethnic slurs against whites, because they aren’t used to mean all whites, just certain types of whites. “Nigger” is used against all blacks regardless of their social class, wealth, nationality, culture, and so forth.

All Dog is doing IMO is the equivalent of shutting the barn door after the horses have gotten loose.

I thought “Paddy” was only about Irish and American/Australian/etc people of Irish ancestry, like “Kraut” is only about Germans. Although some people might use it to mean all whites…

OTOH, was the “Paddy wagon” called such because so many cops were Irish, or because so many criminals were Irish and it was used to haul Irish Immigrants off to jail?

I, too, have only heard “paddy” in reference to Irish.

I once read a diatribe stating that there cannot possibly be a racist term for white people because it requires a power dynamic. As in, it would require a community where all whites are disadvantaged and nonwhites are at the top the social spectrum. I don’t agree 100%, but he may have a point. The anger one feels being called ‘nigger’, ‘kyke’ and whatnot comes from pigeonholing them into low status because of their race. I can’t see myself ever being offended by ‘Honky’ or ‘Pecker wood’, but that isn’t to say they aren’t words to insult white people. If someone insults your race in a language you can’t comprehend it’s still an insult.

Growing up in the LA Barrio during the 1960s paddy was the term used by Mexican-Americans to describe any white person.
didn’t matter if you were of German, Dutch or whatever ancestry, you were a paddy.
YMMV of course.

Huh. Whatever happened to “gringo” then?

Heh. Brings me back - I’m half dago myself, and half Pennsylvania redneck on my father’s side.

Ever make your tomato sauce with venison?

No, but it sounds good. I’d most definitely try some.
.

Really?

I’ve provided cites form my assertion. You are waving your hands about.

Again, I’ll ask. “White” is not a physical trait?

You do realize that your post is still out there, right? Here it is again. * “White trash” has never been a term used by non-whites to degrade caucasians. * Is a black person not a “non-white,” or are we in the rabbit hole here? As I pointed out, it was *invented *by blacks in order to disparage whites.

Who said it has to refer to *all *whites? That’s an artificial restriction of your own making. If I call the guys in the house down the block “a bunch of dagos” am I calling all Italians dagos?

i didn’t see the clip to which sampiro refers; i did see a clip of mr bounty hunter on larry king.

he said that he would make it “right” by working with “interracial” people, taking classes, and learning new words. he has sworn off swearing, he claims. he is now taken aback when he heards the “f” word.

perhaps he will read this thead and learn new words.
