During the Vikings-Packers game, Randy Moss scored a touchdown and his end-zone celebration was to simulate mooning the crowd. Mind you, he didn’t actually expose anything, he pretended to slide down his pants, and then wiggled his ass at the crowd for about a second and a half.
Not exactly the most tasteful or dignified action, but announcer Joe Buck responded with, “That is a disgusting act” and repeated it several times, apologizing to the audience.
Was it really that disgusting? I couldn’t have cared less. I think if Joe had not drawn attention to it, it would have passed largely unnoticed. Was anyone offended by this, and if so, why?
It was offensive and obnoxious. In other words, typical Randy Moss. The guy’s an egomaniac and talking about him only encourages him. I hope the Eagles shut him down this weekend.
That should not be a problem
I’m with the sky sports commentators (Our coverage is a feed from CBS or Fox with a wrapper of commentry from the sky sports team):
“That guy needs to get out more”
It was petty and not a little jerkish for sure, but it wasn’t a sign of the coming apocolypse.
Because it shows a lack of respect for the hundreds of other players that know how to deal with scoring. The guy acts like every big catch and every score is the culmination of years of hard work and anticipation. He makes big plays almost everygame. Why is he so unable to take his success in stride and reverently walk off the field like so many of his fellow athletes and predecessors did?
His immaturity is the centerpiece of his personality, not his great athleticism.
Juvenile antics like this is why I don’t watch NFL football, or much of any sports any more.
When the Packers’ Jim Taylor scored a touchdown he tossed the ball to an official. Taylor figured he was supposed to score because he was paid to do it. Likewise with other backs and receivers. They figured they were only doing their job.
That was partly from Lombardi telling all his players “When you get to the end zone, act like you’ve been there before”.
I don’t have a problem with some celebrating - this is the entertainment industry, and the No Fun League approach is too strict. This isn’t even bad by Moss’ usual standards of conduct. But it still was excessive - disrespecting your opponents is okay, but not the fans who pay your salary. Even more excessive is his publicly-stated habit of going through the motions, and sometimes not even that, on plays where he’s not the primary receiver or if he just doesn’t feel like it.
He overreacted a little, but I mostly agree with his comments.
That was the most disgusting thing I’ve seen on the Fox network since, um, uh, “Who’s Your Daddy?”.
That’s why they make ice cream in all those different flavors, I guess. Entertainment? Yes and to me entertainment is watching skilled athletes performing. If I want vaudeville or burlesque I’ll go down on Main Street.
I find Joe Buck irritating in general.
That said, I did agree with his sentiment, but it needn’t have been harped on.

I think this will do better in IMHO.

I think “disgusting” was a little strong. It was quite disrespectful, though. After he mimed mooning the fans, he rubbed his butt against the team logo on the goal post. Pretty darned rude.
at least we won’t have to watch a moss vs. owens endzone cheesefest.
i don’t get offended by the stupid celebrations, i just feel sorry for the players that do it. it just makes them look moronic. the celebration rules are a little strict, like outlawing the colts little sway before kickoffs, but i’ll take that loss as long as it means i’ll never have to see someone pull out a cellphone or a sharpie again. that premeditated, prop stuff was insane. i just can’t believe these guys would plan all that beforehand. it’s pathetic, frankly.
His usual standard of conduct when? After he makes a touchdown? If you’ve watched many Vikings games, you know that after making a touchdown, his usual standard of conduct is giving the ball to a kid in the stands. Usually that kid is in a wheelchair. He’s also been known to jump into the stands with the fans.
Moss’ actions were disgusting and lewd, but he doesn’t care. All he cares about is that people talk about him and he’s accomplished that. There needs to be a policy that the cameras don’t follow Moss except when the game clock is running. Watching Moss catch the ball and run with it is exciting. Other than that I’ve got no use for him.
Well, it was interpreted by some as though he simulated taking dump on the field only to pretend to wipe his ass on the Packers logo (on the goal post). Pretty damn primitive to me, and takes away from what would otherwise be my second favorite sport.
I have a feeling Mr. Buck was sexually aroused by the sight of Randy pretending to drop trou and bend over, and that Mr. Buck was subsequently disgusted by his own arousal, thereby overprotesting.
What disgusted me was Buck’s “Ha ha ha, look how much fun Brett Favre is having out there” when Favre made one of the stupidest, most boneheaded rookie mistakes I’ve ever seem him make. Inexplicably drawing an illegal forward pass penalty, ruining what would have most probably been a 4th and 1 on the 2 yard line is one thing – for Buck to laugh along like that just reinforces the perception that Favre can do absolutely no wrong. Fricking ridiculous.
I gotta tell you, this crossed my mind too
It was definitely a low class move, but Buck’s “disgusting” comments seemed a bit odd.
