I have no idea, but this was a song we sang in elementary school. 
That’s an awfully short version of the song-- Tommy Makem’s version has at least eight verses (though I hadn’t heard that version of the owl’s verse before).
well, it was for The Muppet Show so they were obviously under a time constraint. It is much longer, I have the recording done by Peter, Paul, & Mary.
