Did Princess Diana and JFK Jr. deserve all that news coverage?

I remember all the coverage those celebrities had recieved but I never understand why. Did they deserve the entire week? Is it significant that Diana was buried in Wales instead of Westminister Abbey? Is she as good as they say she is?
What about JFK Jr. ?

My memories of the coverage of JFK Jr’s death are colored by my opinion of him for killing those two women. What type of coverage do you remember of the events, and how do you feel he was portrayed in that coverage?

I think I mean’t President JFK’s son. I forgot his name.

The only way to determine that is by the ratings. Did people want to know the information put out during those weeks, and demonstrate that thirst for knowledge by watching the ad naseum coverage? If yes, then yes it was deserved. If no, then no.

John F Kennedy Jr. You were right in the first post.

I think part of it is the tragedy involved in both deaths. You might as well ask “Did the victims of the 9/11 killers deserve all that press?” Yes, because it was a story and Diana and JFK Jr. were both (officially or de facto) royalty.

She’s buried at Althorp (her family’s estate) in Northamptonshire, England, not Wales.

Why do you think she should have been buried in Westminster Abbey? There’s only so much space there, and I don’t see any reason why the ex-wife of a Prince of Wales would qualify.

The press loved her as a story because they made a huge profit out of portraying her as an “outsider” (and thus the epitome of the rags-to-riches Cinderella dream of millions of people worldwide), although she was born on a Royal estate, the daughter of a Viscount (later to become an Earl). If – at the age that she started dating Charles – she didn’t know what she was getting into, that says more about her own lack of maturity than it does about the Royal Family.

Yes, it’s a sad story. Cry me a river.
