Did Red Buttons appear totally nude on live TV by accident once?

This sounds like an urban legend, but who knows…

The story is when Red Buttons was on a live TV comedy show in the 1950’s, he devised a gag where by pulling a string his suit would come apart (the intent was to leave him standing deadpan in an ample pair of boxers). Anyway as camera’s were going, the gag happened, but unexpectedly, Red Buttons ended up on live TV completely nude and scrambling for cover with millions of people watching.

Is this true? The person who told me this also believes Walt Disney was found in a basket at a hotel in Spain as an infant by an American couple on vacation.

According to the book, “The Hollywood Walk of Shame”, it happened on Milton Berle’s show. Red was playing a character who was shy about disrobing in front of a doctor (Milton). When Milton grabbed the string of the break-away suit, EVERYTHING came off, including Red’s underwear! Red jumped behind Milton, who, thankfully, kept his cool and introduced the next act and had the curtains closed.
