This could be a General Question since it’s mostly about the gesture, but it’s also about Spike, so that’s “Entertainment”.
Opening credits to “Buffy”. Spike’s tied in a chair and flashes the “peace sign”. Hand held backwards. Isn’t this a “rude gesture”? (The same one Daddy Bush got in hot water over in Australia during some visit?)
That’s Question: Part the First.
Assuming this is the “rude gesture” I think it is, do they edit it out of the opening when they show it in England and Australia? (They’ve been using that clip for Spike for at least two years. I don’t know the lag time in showing “Buffy” foreignly.)
Still more a General Question, but I think it goes here. “Is Spike flipping me off?” And “Does he flip everyone off in countries that recognize the gesture? Or is it edited out (around… it is just the opening credits after all)?”
-Rue.
Brit television is much more relaxed about such things than ours; no censoring was done when I was over there earlier this year. I can’t speak for the Aussies.
Yes, that’s a rude gesture. But they show it all the time on English TV. They made this gesture many times on Are You Being Served, which was aired in the 70’s.
So they wouldn’t have to censor this for England. Don’t know about Australia.
What was this about Bush? I don’t remember that story?
