Did the Norway shooter set some kind of record?

Finland is not included in Scandinavia (which is not the same thing as the Scandinavian peninsula) by us who live in the area and I think we should know best. :wink:

Denmark, on the other hand, is included because they speak the same language as Norwegians and Swedes (yes, I regard it as one language with three major dialect groups).

I also live in the area.

The difference is Swedish has a handy, often used word, ‘Norden’. The English equivalent, ‘The Nordics’, is used much less often and is more unwieldly due to it, well, being two words and a plural.

You believe wrong.

Scandinavia = Denmark + Sweden + Norway
Fennoscandia = Scandinavia + Finland
The Nordic countries = Scandinavia + Finland + Iceland
The Scandinavian peninsula = Sweden + Norway
ETA: Has anybody else noticed that Norway is omitted from the Scandinavian peninsula on the 1€ coins, with the result that Sweden and Finland look eerily like a big cck with blls?

As I said, it depends on how anal you want to be. A very anal man could make claims that the peninsula is the geographical Scandinavia and everything else is either a political or cultural construct. Wiki (Scandinavia - Wikipedia) says that within Sweden, Norway and Denmark there is onlY one definition and all others are wrong. Problem is that that does not fly with me as Swedes routinely refer to Great Britain and the United Kingdom as England, so they’re as guilty as others when it comes to a lack of accuracy when talking about other areas of the world.

In essence, in English, scandinavia very often refers to those three core countries plus add on bits, most often Finland. That may be considered wrong in the languages of the three core countries, but unfortunately I am writing in English. The many, many times I have been referred to as an ‘engelsman’ reminds me that the Swedish attitude is very much the same as mine here.

Who were his targets?

So, two wrongs make a right?

Which “who”? The Norway shooter? His targets were the Government Quarter of Norway, and teenagers and tweens at a Labor Party summer camp.

ETA: More threads on that topic at the SDMB

I think the question itself is sick. As if there is some kind of competition going on.
How do you think people who lost a relative feel if they read this discussion?

There are new coins now where Norway is included: http://images.google.com/imgres?q=euro&hl=en&biw=1024&bih=619&tbm=isch&tbnid=p1AG8zKVqVI7ZM:&imgrefurl=http://www.civitas.org.uk/eufacts/FSECON/EC4.htm&docid=53nUUHbiJK1gZM&w=600&h=585&ei=DFJKTvm1G4Sa-wb8xZSECQ&zoom=1

I know. But those coins aren’t as funny as the old ones :smiley:

Yes, but since he hated Moslems, did he try to target Moslem teens?

No, he wanted to eradicate the next generation of Labour party leaders because he thought that the party was instrumental in allowing those dirty muslim bastards to move to Norway.

Yeah, IMHO it was “political cleansing” instead of “ethnic cleansing.” Or maybe “particide” instead of “genocide.”
