Did the President decline the mantle of "leader of the free world?"

Lately, on the SDMB, I have seen numerous posts about the president’s public and quasi-public* behavior and statements, many of which decry the behavior/statement as being less than what one should have a right to expect from “the leader of the free world.”

I was fortunate enough to be away from televised and most online media for a week beginning on Inauguration Day. However, I can’t shake the feeling that somewhere, I saw a reference to the “president,” somewhat early in his term, proclaiming that his assumption of the Presidency does NOT make him “Leader of the Free World,” or indeed, leader of any part of the world except the United States of America.

Did I just misinterpret a clickbait headline? Or did DJT** ever actually make a statement that could be interpreted that way? I’ve been trying to find a reference to it online, but I don’t seem to be able to figure out the right search terms.

A little help? TIA.

*Twits, or whatever the cool kids are calling them these days.

**“DJT” refers to the America-hating Fuckstick Currently Befouling the Oval Office. I would have used the term directly, but I didn’t want people accusing me (wholly without reason, btw) of “poisoning the well.”

Anyway, TIA

Political jabs are not permitted in General Questions. If you didn’t want to poison the well, you shouldn’t have included this. This is closed.

You can try again without the political jab. However, IMHO or Great Debates would be better since this is guaranteed to get a lot a side commentary and I’d rather not have to ride herd on it in GQ.
