This site details the an atack by a US Navy ship on an unidentified underwater target in 1951.

The real interesting stuff is about how the incedent was not officially logged.

The site was ostensibly created by 2 former crew members of the USS Renshaw, one of the ships involved in the attack.

They are trying to discover what, if anything, they attacked, and why the Naval records have been doctored or destroyed.

It has the ring of truth to me.
