Did you buy or plan to buy a new car?

Last new car I bought was a 2012 Ford Fiesta. Neat little car.

So much for “plan to get a hybrid”. In what was surprising even to me, I now own a 2016 Jetta.

My wife went to college with the dealership owner’s daughter, so negotiating was…interesting. But we got an excellent deal.

I knew that Volkswagen had newly certified that their turbo engines (at least the 2 smaller Jetta ones) could run on regular. I wound up with a base Jetta with the 1.4T engine. This engine kicks major butt. It is rated for 39 MPG on the highway, but it seems that a lot of people are able to beat that in real life, which is very atypical. (I did it too - I got over 42 MPG on the way to the office.) But even though it’s a small, efficient engine, it has pretty amazing acceleration. It’s 150 hp, but VERY torquey in the lower range (where you need it), so I think it can out-accelerate my wife’s 170 hp Golf, and a lot of other cars too. It’s basically a large economy car with a huge trunk that is a blast to drive.

I test drove the Sport, with the 1.8T engine, as well. That’s a nice car, and it’s not stripped down like my S model. I just am too cheap to spend nearly 5k more.

I did the PHEV route, too. Hyundai Sonata PHEV. I live in a small town and work from home, and 95% of my driving is to the next town over (within the electric range) or in my own.

I’ve owned the car a little over three months, and have thus far had to fill the tank only twice, with a mileage of about 125 MPG driving mostly electric (about 4000 miles on about 30 gallons including the full tank from the dealer). My electric bill went up by about $50/month, but that’s WAY less than I was spending on gas.

A couple longer trips have given me about 60 mpg when driving on gas, but since both of those trips started with a full charge, that’s a little misleading. I’m guessing about 45 real mileage in “all gas” mode – good, but not phenomenal for a hybrid.

All in all, I’m happy with it.

The range on the Focus makes me nervous, too. If I’m just going back and forth to work, no problem, but if I have to run to Woodhaven and then go to a meeting with a line builder in Sterling Heights that afternoon, then all bets are off.

FN1, maybe called Mercury Development Center, but I never hear anyone call it that.

I got a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee a month ago. It is a Diesel and gets over 30 MPG at highway speeds, which is decent enough for what the car can do.

Bought a 2016 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring yesterday. Very impressed with the comfort and handling, and got a good deal on it. Put my 2011 Prius up on the SDMB Marketplace forum, if anybody is interested.

I got one of those letters from a dealership where I had gotten my car serviced, mocked up to look like an email from the owner saying my car is in high demand and they’d give me top dollar. For a minute I toyed with trading in my this

but decided I am more deep sea blue than hyper blue.

Got an Audi A6. Will buy a Tesla after the student loans are paid off.

They won’t give you top dollar. You’ll be lucky to get bottom dollar after they get done telling you that your car is a piece of shit, regardless of what condition it’s really in.

Eh, it all depends how desperate to push their current inventory off the lot. When I traded in by 2013 Mazda3, they offered me 2 grand more than what Edmunds said was top dollar.

If I was just trying to sell it rather than trade it in, I’m sure the offer wouldn’t have been nearly as good.

2016 Mazda 6 GT. Pretty pleased so far, other than one brief glitch with the CD player and the very mild annoyance of the nav system not doing live traffic updates.

Honda, Nissan and Subaru are out because they offer that dreaded CVT transmission. Halfass looking at a Toyota Camry XLE or a VW Passat. VW because they are really wanting to make deals now.

Congratulations! That is the exact one that I want. I have never driven one but I make it a point to compliment the owners every time I see one and ask them if they like it. All of them have been very enthusiastic about them. My RAV4 still has some miles left in it but, if anything happens to it, that is probably what I will be buying the next day unless you tell me something bad after you have driven it for a while.

It’s not a cushy ride, so you do feel the road. Not harsh, just solid. Excellent acceleration into traffic with the 2.5L. There’s a lot to learn with the controls. I kept punching what I thought was the music knob on the dash until the sales guy said “Um, that’s the climate control.” :o This particular vehicle didn’t come with nav, but I got them to split the cost of the chip with me. I really liked the metallic gray color on the CX-9 I saw in the lot, but it’s not available (yet) on the CX-5. We got the light blue. We need to take it on a day trip out to the coast or up into the Mt. Hood area to shake things out. I’ll let you know how it goes.

I bought a 2015 Prius new and it already has almost 40K miles on it (I bought a Prius for a reason!) I’m happy with it except when I drive to work which is only about a mile away (I walk sometimes but that is too far to walk to work in the Florida summer.) Between the energy spent accelerating and air conditioning, it’s probably lucky to get 25 MPG on those short jogs. One of the reasons I got the Prius is extra tank distance, and when I spend too many days commuting, I am lucky to hit 400 miles before I have to refuel instead of the 450-550 when I am doing 45-65 on surface roads/highways.

Exactly – it was dated June 18 so I figure they are trying anything before the quarter end. My father got his list $27K Forester for $6K last March 31.

Great car, isn’t it? I have one too.

I’ve bought new:

2000 Dodge Ram 2500 turbodiesel (special order)
2003 Dodge Dakota Sport
2004 Dodge SRT-4
2010 Ford Mustang GT (special order)
2012 Ford Mustang GT

I’ve bought used:

1987 Plymouth Duster (first car, yay freedom!)
1984 Ford F-250 diesel
2011 Ford Ranger Sport 4x4

i have baught my new first and new car on last month and i am enjoying it a lot.

So what did you get?
