Did you do anything special on New Year's Eve 2000?

**

I was inside the exploding fireworks on the San Francisco Bay Bridge.**

Fireworks were going off from ships below and the Ferry Building, and I was surrounded by the balls of color, leaving ash all over my car.

I had tried to cross the bridge at the last minute, but got stuck right behind three cop cars that were starting to block it.

Trapped, I spent most of the show watching from mid-span, which was great.
Then the cops prematurely decided it was “over” and started moving up.
It wasn’t over, but there was a whole bridge full of cars preventing us from backing up, so we were stuck in it, and got surrounded by sparkles.

Me? I said “whoop-T-do” at 9 P.M. and went to bed. Got up the next morning to see of everything “still worked”. It did and here we are…

But New Year’s Eve 1999, I went to a party with my now fiancé, then had a private party with him involving candles, lingerie, and flavored body oil at my apartment.

Ruffian… you have me beat by a longshot! You lucky person! I sat home with my daughter watching all the hoopla on TV… then she passed out across me at 10 til midnight. So I celebrated alone. Hopefully next year will be different! I thought it was super sad though that with all the celebrations they showed from all over the world the lamest by far was our own…!

I was in New Orleans, in the French Quarter. I was wearing black and white camouflage-patterned face paint and a Hawaiian shirt, and had a huge plastic flask of Maker’s Mark in my hand. I was trading shots for beads and shots for kisses, and was giving the beads to any woman who didn’t have any (without the traditional obligation).

At the stroke of midnight, my girlfriend and I were packed like sardines in Jackson Square. There was no big clock to let us know when the moment was approaching, so when the ball suddenly started its ten-second drop on top of Jax Brewery, the whole crowd erupted. I remember thinking, for some reason, “We made it.”

Tam and I spent the rest of the evening slumped down in a storefront somewhere, laughing, watching the people go by, and wishing everyone a Happy New Year.

It was perfect.

I stayed home to do a puzzle with my mom.

I rang in the New Year on my couch, watching TV with my husband, sister and kids.

When the lights didn’t go out, I figured my job was done, and retired for the night.

Wow… am I the only one who got really drunk at a cool party with their friends, nearly set the neighborhood on fire with fireworks, (This really happened, mainly because we were really drunk and playing with fireworks, not a good combo for anybody thinking about it.) and nearly watched one of my best friends get killed by some guy trying to swing at a pinata with a baseball bat… (Again… pinatas and drinking don’t mix. the guy hitting the thing got all spun around the whole time spinning wildly and as hard as he could with a baseball bat-- missing my friends head by a little over an inch. We all ran and tackled him before he could do any more).

Yeah, I had fun.

Hung out with 10 of my close girlfriends, watched the coverage of New Year’s around the world, got drunk and blared noisemakers off their balcony, went to sleep at 4am, then got up, drove home, and watched football all day.

I sat in front of the television with a flashlight in my hand.

Well, since I am one of those computer-geeks, I was at work. But it was kinda fun. We had noisemakers, food, drink, etc. and we had the TV on CNN, so we watched everyone else’s celebrations. Only thing was, my husband and I were apart. I hated that.

I gave my wife a new diamond ring at midnight and asked her if, after all these years together, she would be willing to marry me again. This was a recreation of my proposal to her umpteen years ago. Getting married to the same girl twice with no divorce or seperation ever should be a fad in the 21st century.

My boyfriend and I went to a lovely dinner at a fancy restaurant. There was a pre-set menu with five courses and drinks to accompany. The food was excellent. The seating was at 9:30, and we left the restaurant at about 11:15. We went back to my boyfriend’s and sat on his balcony (15th floor) watching the fireworks downtown, with the door open so we could also see the ball drop on TV. We also drank champagne. It might not have been too exciting, but we were together

I spent New Year’s Eve 2000 on Sanibel Island, Fla. with about 20 of my college friends. We had spent the week there, so by 12/31, we were all a little partied out, but still had a fine time.

BTW, in case the Y2K bug hit, we figured that, once we blew the causeway, the island was pretty defensible

I was also there for New Year’s Eve 1999, and I must say, I enjoyed that new year’s more than I enjoyed 2000’s. There were a lot more people, and everyone seemed to be just a lot more festive.

The whole Y2K scare about bombings and all that stuff probably scared everyone off from coming because there really werent a lot of people and the atmosphere didn’t have that excitement to it.

I spent the new year with my girlfriend of 4 years, in an apartment with 2 of our friends in Boston. We got really drunk and just watched the countdown on TV. We went to see fireworks over the harbor on New Years Day.

I stayed home with Mrs. denbo and the three little denbos, sent the kids to bed at nine and watched the whole affair on TV while trying to stay awake.

At 11:59pm, as if guided by some powerful force, my three year old daughter (who had come down with the flu) awoke, stumbled down the hallway, climbed into my lap on the couch, and threw up all over me. Not exactly the fireworks display I had been anticipating. I rang in the new year doing laundry and scrubbing upholstery.

Although, it did make me feel 20 again–I hadn’t had someone throw up me on New Years Eve in years.

I was in Sydney, Australia, sitting on the grass next to the harbour bridge with a view of the opera house and harbour, with my best mate in the world, drinking beer and watching the fireworks. Then went into Sydney city centre, danced in the streets and drank beer, went back to Coogee beach for sunrise and the beginning of a new century. It rained but it was brilliant! Oh, I also has my hair sprayed Bright Blue and glitter all over my face!! I will never forget it.

I hung out with my family. We made a time capsule and wrote notes about what we predicted for both the world and all other members of the family. We’ll break it open in twenty years. It was a nice calm evening. We enjoied watching the other countries displays and Katie Couric fall asleep on television.

I had a couple of my closet friends over. We drank and had fun. Everyone went home not too long after midnight. I finally got to see my BF around two because he works for a computer company and had to stay at work until after midnight. It was fun though… and I still have to get those pictures developed.
