We get a choice: MLK Day, Presidents Day, or a floating holiday.
I’ll take the floating holiday, probably in June.

No, but I got to park all day without having to pay or move my car. That was nice.
During both undergrad and grad school, the only holiday we got any time off for was Thanksgiving (2 days). Everything else either fell outside of the semester (e.g. Christmas, Independence Day) or was a normal school day. In fact in undergrad we always started each semester on a holiday, Labor Day and MLK Day.
School offices were often closed. I usually didn’t notice it was a holiday until I went to check my mail or buy something from the stockroom.
Hey, I went to one of the few universites that remained open all September 11, 2001. It(U of Mich - Dearborn) is highly Muslim and did not want to look like they were closing because of that. Few people attended classes, though.
I work for a union; we got it off.
No. I ain’t some slacker Federal, state or bank employee.
Working class motherfucker I is.
When I went to college, my school (Gonzaga University) would start fall semester on or near Labor Day, so we never got that day off. We would have an observed Labor Day–in October.
Ugh, I hate MLK and Presidents’ Day. They’re mandatory, unpaid days and I work 4-10’s at an engineering firm, why do we have the day off, it just means we have to work on Friday.
No. Typical large business office. At least traffic was really light yesterday morning.
Mandatory unpaid? That sucks.
Yes, I had MLK Day off, as it’s both a Federal (bank) and a NYSE holiday. Most if not all financial services firms in NYC are closed that day, as with Good Friday which is an Exchange holiday. We don’t get the US bank holidays off though when the Exchange is open (Columbus Day or Veteran’s Day).
I had the day off, but it wasn’t part of our scheduled time off. I had to go to an out of town funeral.
Yes, I did – IT worker.
We used to have the day after Thanksgiving off, but they switched it a couple of years ago for MLK Day.
(Or, as a certain office dipshit said loudly on what thankfully turned out to be his last day here “Oh, so we’re trading Black Friday for Black Monday? Hur hur hur!!”)
No but I did call my boss a “honky oppressor” at least half a dozen times.
Me: corporate, nope.
Mr. Horseshoe: retail, nope.
Yep I was off. Government employee (not higher ed).
oops
yes
I did. I work for a church charity office. We get off any day city school students are out except for the first week of winter break.
I work as a baker in a cafe, and we probably would have been open, but the cafe is located inside the city’s public library. Since that was closed for the day, we had to close as well.
On account of this policy I get all the federal holidays off, plus Christmas Eve/Day and New Year’s Eve/Day.
