You may notice that this posting is made quite early on Sunday morning.
Yet again, we’ve been treated to an early morning symphony of birdsong.
No, wait. not birdsong.
That other sound.
Of the neighbor’s big diesel-powered pickup truck.
The one that’s so big it doesn’t fit in their garage.
And evidently requires 10-15 minutes of idling to get warmed up enough to be drivable.
But can’t be parked up close to their house for this, for reasons that escape me. Nope, got to be pulled halfway out into the cul de sac (I looked this morning, and at least half the length of it was on the street).
This of course happens to place it as close to our house as to theirs. Possibly closer, and neatly bypassing the potential sound-dampening tree between the two houses.
Oh, and it places it MUCH closer to our bedroom than to theirs.
Early on a Sunday morning, this is approximately as welcome as a leaf blower accompanying a root canal.
We’ve also been treated to this symphony (and stench) while gardening outside in the afternoon a time or two.
Dammit, they’re nice enough neighbors most of the time. Now I have to make an awkward phone call mentioning “oh by the way, did you realize…”.
I used to live in an apartment that was situated near the main road into the complex. Some dude would leave his refrigerator truck running ALL NIGHT, EVERY NIGHT, I assume so that it would keep refrigerating. Very annoying.
I think it would take a very large fan (it’s a loud truck - imagine a tractor-trailer outside the window), and of course they don’t do this every day so we’d either need to run the fan all the time (wasteful), or get up and turn it on when needed (defeats the purpose, which is improved sleep).
I’ll have to try to make an opportunity to mention it to them. I honestly don’t think it occurs to them that it’s loud and that it REEKS.
