I’ve never seen this! I had to give up anything with Aspartame, which means I had to give up my beloved Diet Coke (and Diet Mountain Dew, sigh). If I could find it with Splenda, I’d be in heaven. I’ll have to start looking. Do they look the same as regular Diet Coke cans?
Right now the only ones I can find with Splenda, and so will recommend them, are Pepsi One and Walgreens Cola, Pepsi One being the better of the two.
For afternoon no caffeine, I switched to Lipton’s diet green tea with citrus. Not a soda, but not bad.
I packed on an extra 30-40 pounds over the last few years, but managed to lose it all since the early part of this year. That included a little less eating and a little more exercise (and some stress), but cutting out the sugar sodas and juices made a big difference.
Coke Zero works for me. It helped that I hadn’t had Coke at all for a few weeks before I tried it. When I did try it I couldn’t believe how much it tasted like regular Coke, but after a couple of weeks drinking it, I had a glass of regular Coke and realised… yeah, there’s a difference and regular Coke is still better. So my suggestion would be to abstain from regular Coke for a while before drinking it, and don’t mess yourself up by mixing your drinks, so to speak.
Don’t listen to Indyellen, she’s confused. Diet Dew is disgusting. Accept no substitutes here, especially if you’re a Mt. Dew lover like myself.
Equipoise, look for the Diet Coke with the blue swish in the label - this is the one sweetened with Splenda, and it is indeed pretty good. It’s the same silver as regular Diet Coke, just with blue in the label. (It can blend in.)
Diet Mountain Dew and Diet Mountain Dew: Code Red are my favorites. I can’t taste the difference between them and the sugar-filled versions anymore. Gives me a good boost of caffine when I need it, too.
Are Sprite/Coke Zero different to Diet Sprite/Coke? I just thought they were the same products in different packaging. In the UK/Ireland the target market for Coke Zero has been men who think Diet Coke is too girly or what have you.
I like Safeway’s Diet-Cranberry. If you don’t have Safeway in your neck of the woods I’m sure you’ll find the same thing marketed under some other generic brand name.
I have to echo the Dr Pepper Berries and Cream and Black Cherry Vanilla. Pepsi also makes a diet version called Pepsi Jazz that comes in both of those flavors as well as caramel. Also try Coke Vanilla Zero and Diet Pepsi Vanilla. I also drink vault energy soda, in diet. Only 5 calories a 12 oz. can.
I also prefer the splenda diet coke to the Coke Zero, although that’s also good. The cans of the splenda diet cokes look a lot like the regular, but have a yellow swishy under the “Coke” and a splenda symbol. I never had trouble finding them in the states.
Diet 7-Up and Diet Cherry 7-Up (both sweetened with Splenda) taste very good to me. But then again I am not big into cola flavors unless it is as a mixer.
This may not be a popular suggestion, but if you just stop drinking regular Coke and start drinking nothing but Diet Coke (or Pepsi, or whatever), in a week or two you’ll get used to it and it won’t be as vile as it seems to you now.
I used to be a hardcore Pepsi fan, didn’t like Coke, and couldn’t stand any diet drinks. A few years ago, for the same reasons as others here (weight), I switched over to whichever of the two diet colas was on sale that week. It didn’t take long to completely lose my lifelong dislike of the diet taste. I can still notice the difference between diet and regular and Coke and Pepsi, I just don’t care about the difference.
You can do it, too.
The good thing about this suggestion is that by getting used to the diet flavors you can stick with them when you’re eating out. I’ve never seen a fountain that served Coke Zero or Pepsi One. But they all have the standard diet versions.
BTW, I like, and occasionally buy, Zero and One for variety, but my favorite is Diet Coke.
The Wendy’s near(ish) me has Coke Zero. It’s enticing enough to make me drive about 10 minutes out of my way for a salad there instead of the much closer McDonald’s sometimes.
Seconded. Also, Costco offers them in cases of two six-packs each of Tangerine Lime, Root Beer and Black Cherry. I’m not usually a root beer person but they’re made with natural flavors, so you can taste the vanilla, the mint, and so on that make up the root beer flavor. All the flavors are good and not especially diet-y.
