So, I’m tired of putting chocolate or peanut butter frostings on yellow cakes.
What else would make a good combo?

Almond.
I think either a mint butter cream frosting or a lemon vanilla frosting might be good.
Plutonium and cream cheese.
I did a praline frosting once; it was mighty tasty.
I wouldn’t eat it, but many people like mocha.
I would eat coconut.
Strawburry
Caramel icing on yellow cake is pretty fantastic. I like this recipe (ignore the cake part and just make the icing). Be sure to spread it fast, though; it sets quickly.
I wonder if something like a berry jam or jelly underneath a vanilla or buttercream might be tasty. Probably messy and difficult to do, but still tasty.
Tired… of… chocolate? Huh. shrugs That’s a weird sentence.
I toss my vote for strawberry buttercream, or strawberry whipped cream. If you’re tired of chocolate frosting, what about chocolate ganache? Maybe dark chocolate mint?
Some good suggestions, thanks! The lemon-vanilla, sounds yummy. And the praline and the caramel ones, which reminds me, my grandmother once made a penuche frosting…
Off to hunt for recipes!
Pinterest keeps telling me to mix a can of cream of coconut and a can of sweetened condensed milk and pour that over yellow cake, then ice it with cool whip.
I won’t say they’re wrong, I just haven’t tried it yet.
Yellow’s such a neutral flavor, I can’t really see any flavor of frosting not working with it.
Stab it all over with a fork, then pour on hot jello, preferably a red or other contrasting color, put in fridge. Frost or not, I like it as is.
Caramel, or if you put a little coconut flavoring in the cake, toasted coconut.
Caramel frosting is really good with yellow cake. I buy slices at Kroger at least once a month. I’m sure homemade would be even more delicious.
