Got Netflix about 6 months ago. And had heard about the Walking Dead series. The first one or two where great. I’m on season three now I think.
It really seems (or seemed) to have great character development. Good sets and cinematography. But sheeeeseee. I have no problem with gore, Alien is one of my favorite movies. IMHO it’s just getting out of hand. It’s mostly just blood and guts now.
I think the writers had a conscious desire to up the gore continuously as the show progressed. If you look at it that way, it’s kind of fun to see them being creative. The show is very good, but don’t be surprised if at some point you start thinking the writers get real lazy. I won’t give any spoilers, but the current season is not getting the rave reviews the earlier seasons got.
Hmm… Yeah, it seems like they have a lot of special effects people that are getting overtime. Or they just need something to do. I’m watching the movie Feast right now. It’s campy, and very gory. But one I do enjoy.
Just seems like The Walking Dead uses gore and special effects more than needed. I do think the writers are getting lazy.
FWIW, to the fans of the comic series the gore is real important, or so I am told. I have never read or looked at them. But my adult son has. Personally I could do w/o most of the gore. The writers do manage some character arcs that I have liked. Watch Rick and Carls relationship and Daryl with pretty much everyone. I find it to be a very good drama. But what do I know, I am just a crazy fan-girl?!
I stopped watching in the middle of S4 because I thought the writers were getting lazy and were depending too much on the gore. Never returned and I probably never will.
I’ve seen a few episodes of Z Nation. It’s a totally different show in tone.
