Ok this question may seem stupid, but i don’t know all that much about how the data in digital photos is stored.
Ok i have some photos that i put goofy captions on for some friends, and the originals cannot be found.
Is there anyway to edit them to remove the captions?
Is the data for letters or colors that is overlaid appended to the file,or are the pixels actually overwritten?
This highly depends on the format in which the image is saved, some picture formats saves data in layers and text is usually seperated from the backgrounds. Other formats however, like jpg, gif, bmp and png store image data per pixel, which, in your case would mean that the pixels are overwritten with the caption. Sure, someone competent in photo editing might be able to restore some or all of the background, but it would most likely be very tedious work, if at all possible.
I’ve done that. It is tedious work, but it’s not all that difficult, usually. Whether the results are acceptable depends greatly on the background and the size of the lettering. Small letters on a plain background are easier to remove than large letters on a patterned background. If you want, you can email them to me, and I’ll take a whack at it.
