Just to let everyone know, I’ll be out of town on the 5th and 6th.
Also, did you want orders due on the 7th or 10th? I don’t think you were explicit enough.

There’s been a deafening silence in this game. Hope this changes once everyone returns from the big holiday weekend.
I’m back. I sent out my first round of emails last weekend, and I caught up on messages late Sunday and yesterday.
Yes, please confirm on the due date of orders.
It seems that diplomacy on this game is just really getting started in earnest…and Shibb is AWOL. Can we assume a slight delay in the Spring 01 orders due date? Or are we sticking with the 10th?
One more question about house rules. Do late orders recieve a NMR, or will you attempt to communicate with the offending player first? To let you know, I much prefer a short grace period where you rattle the cage of the missing player, it is all too easy in email games to lose track of dates, get confused by GMT vs local time, etc etc etc.
Anyone else seeing some incongruity here?
Lemur, I don’t think you have to worry. All the SDMB GMs have taken a pretty casual attitude towards dealing with late orders. An NMR is not out of the question, but we’ve all stated (and performed) a prefered tactic of emails reminding the offending player and trying to avoid an NMR unless absolutely necessary. Of course, anyone abusing the courtesy may force a little harsher treatment. I can’t speak for Shibb, but his messages to date seem to imply that he’ll be sticking with the tradition of this opinion.
I had a real head case for a GM in my WM tourney game who seemed to relish NMRs at the slightest delay. Often orders receieved minutes late, even if adjudication didn;t occurs for hours later were disregarded and the player was NMRed. Totalling 5 NMRs in 9 years…not fun at all.
As for a deadline, I think the afternoon 10th is still pretty doable, especially considering the fact that a delay might end up running through the weekend.
As per Shibb’s email, the 10th is still the deadline. That’s tomorrow, folks. Just a reminder, some of you haven’t surrendered yet. That’s OK, you still have time but please get those surrenders in by tomorrow midnight.
I am here, not AWOL, I have a pass. I just sent you all a couple of emails, check your mailboxes. Also, I have some orders from some folks and none from some, which is to be expected. I’ll be lenient on orders when people request extra time. If you’re always late or seem to be using it for political reasons, then you might get NMR’ed. Don’t take any chances. I’ve never heard of a legit request for extra time denied. Just be considerate to other players.
And Medea’s Kid, what did you mean by that? Don’t make me get out my bondage gear or someone’s going to get a spanking!
So, what time is adjutication? Just askin…
Well, I would just be done with my first ever adjudication, but I noticed that one of the orders is ambiguous and thought since it’s the first round I’d give the offending party the benefit of the doubt. Especially since I’m 90% certain which province he meant, based on his other moves. So an email has been sent and I’m awaiting a reply. I’ll give the person a reasonable yet not overly long period of time to reply, and if I get impatient then I’ll just fail that move. Otherwise I have all moves and all things look well (for me; some of you will certainly be disappointed).
And since you asked, I’m fine. Took a long walk along the beach today, a quick dip with the kids in the pool, then had she-crab soup and a jerk grouper sandwich for lunch. Also had a margarita rocks while I waited. So the morning hasn’t been a complete waste.
For everyone else, be certain you are clear on your orders. Make sure you indicate the appropriate coast for Fleets, coming and going if possible. If you are not CERTAIN of the correct abbreviation then please write it out (that’s what happened in our current incident).
That is all for now!
Here’s how your first round came out. Check your emails for a map and these same orders. Please review carefully for errors as it’s the first time I’ve done this. But if you do see an error then it’d better be backed in writing in my email account!
Also, any commentary from the peanut gallery or participants is appreciated (on the game, not my mad GM skillz):

Oh great and long-suffering GM Shibb,
I do believe the top two lines of the results sheet got decapitated when you posted it here. I’ll check my email tonight to verify the orders I sent out.
Quick analysis:
Austria opens to the Balkans.
England opens south.
France opens north.
Germany opens northwest.
Turkey opens standard.
And TWO Hedgehog openings, from Italy and Russia.
If that’s a hedgehog opening by Italy, I’ll eat my shorts. Although the move to Tuscany is odd, unless he’s going to convoy to Tunis. A move to Venice would be stronger, since it still supports his attack on me and keeps you in Austria honest.
Oh, you’re right Lemur. I mentally moved Tuscany.
That’ll teach me to analyze a situation without referring to a map.
Shibb, your mad GMing skillz cut off the top of Austria’s opening.
Skillz.
Here’s the rest of Austira’s orders just for kicks
Can somebody help me out?
This seems really cool yet I have absolutely no idea what it is.
