Dipping my toes in the water

Do you like blacksberry pie?

Que onda?

Welcome, welcome! There’s still some orange-pineapple-ginger ice cream left in the freezer. Mariah didn’t get all of it. And the song? I know it as being from one of Marillion’s albums from the eighties.

Thanks, everybody!

I appreciate the help, Cajun Man. I dropped her a line.

I think the goat drank all the beer, chowder. He got upset when I said I was going to fend him off with a squid.

Blackberry pie? Yum. Really, I can’t think of a pie flavor I don’t like.

Welcome to the Dope, say goodbye to your previous life.

As for the name, how about, hmmm, Blue Lavender?, Periwinkle?, Lavender Blue Mk II?, Prusian Blue? (it helps if you have a handlebar moustache and a penchant for wearing spiked helmets).

Welcome, welcome! We were just cleaning up from the last [del]victim[/del] new member [del]initiation[/del] welcome party. Mariah’s a little tired, but I think she can handle you. Please go to room 133, and have a seat in the folding chair in the middle of the room. Don’t slip in the water on the floor.

You do? Well then have some! throws pie in your face

Mmmmm . . . blackberry. But pie is always better a la mode. lobs orange-pineapple-ginger ice cream at Autolycus

Hey! I slaved for hours over a hot stove to make tha–um, wait.

ohhhhh, home improvement!!! do tell.

lavender and blue are nice sea, ocean, water colours. what else are you thinking?

Welcome!! I would really like some key lime pie please, better yet how 'bout I make us a pitcher of key lime martinis?

Sounds great, Qwisp! Just remember to duck if Autolycus comes back with more pie and offers you any.

I just got a new roof and had the soffits wrapped. I also added insulation in the attic, and got a new garage door. I can’t believe the old door lasted this long–it was falling apart when I bought the house several years ago. I was given $500 at closing toward the cost of the door, but it turned out to be a custom size and considerably more expensive than that to replace. I didn’t have the money to do it for a long time, though.

I’ll probably bite the bullet and get the driveway redone this summer. It slopes toward the house–not a good thing! Then I’ll be very broke for a while.

I need siding and windows too, but that will have to wait until my finances recover. So I’ll need to content myself with less expensive projects. Preferably the sort I can do myself. My guest room is a shade of light blue I’m not fond of. However, one wall has a nice wallpaper on it that is light blue with a white, feathery-looking pattern. So I’ve been trying to figure out what I could paint the walls that would look good with the wallpaper, and that’s where the whole lavender or blue thing comes in.

However, I’ve been intending to do something with those walls for many years, and so far laziness wins out. Still, I like dreaming about doing things around here, and given the recent project, I’ve been doing a lot of redecorating in my mind. It’s addicting!

Hi Lavender Blue! The song comes from So Dear to my Heart, a Disney live action film from 1948, and originally sung by Burl Ives.

wow! that’s a whole lot of improving going on. i understand the custom stuff. i’ve got an old house and nothing, absolutely nothing is standard sized.

Alligator pie, maybe? Though it does seem to be popular: “Give away the green grass, give away the sky, But don’t give away my alligator pie.” You just don’t say things like that unless you really love the stuff.

Regardless of your preferences in baked goods, welcome!

Thanks for the cite, Cheez Whia. Tuba Diva changed my name to Lavender Falcon today, so I have my own name now. Woohoo!

Rocking Chair, how old is your house? Sounds like you’ve been fixing yours up too. What sorts of work have you done? Mine is a 1958 and was minimally cared for by the previous owner, so there’s lots to do around here. No big scary problems, though, and I saw some houses with scary problems before I found this one.

Spoons, that poem is great! Heck, I’d be willing to try alligator pie after reading it, although I’ve always suspected aligator meat would be tough and somewhat fishy tasting. Anyway, I printed it out and will share it with my niece, who is four and lives in Florida. She’ll get a kick out of it.

Yes?
Can I help you?

Ahhh, nice usage of the Simpsons if intentional, still somewhat witty with the slight pause for comedic effect if not.

I like that.

Welcome to the Board.

I like this thread. People like my user name. Yeah.

It was also a reminder to renew my membership, something I’d forgotten about in a recent frenzy of work.

oh, let’s see, over 100 yrs old. had an outhouse in the back yard. luckily that was replaced well before i came along. the front door and top step are trying to get some attention by breaking something eveynow and again.

thus far the big thing has been replacing the windows in the front bedroom. the new windows are so very wonderful. only 4 more windows to go!

right now i’m dealing with the rooms that haven’t been touched since the '70’s. icky paneling and dropped ceilings.

i can deal with the bedroom on my own. i’ll be a plastering fool once i get the ceiling and paneling down. then decide what to do with the floor. there is a lovely “fake rug” linoleum thing from the early 1900’s over plank subfloor right now. then the room will get green and brown paint and become the library.

the library (the wee room, mostly used as a nursery from the 600 layers of wallpaper), will become the dressing room/closet. it is green and grey.

my dream would be to have the wee room become the bathroom. and the bathroom (that was shoehorned in when indoor plumbing became the rage) would give the back bedroom a bit more room and a closet.

don’t get me started on the kitchen.

i don’t have anything in lavender, although the front bedroom (soon to be library) does have a layer of purple paint that i am a bit baffled by. my bedroom (in the back) is aqua (there is the blue) and lime green.
