Dipping my toes in the water

Hello, I’m new here and thought I should introduce myself. I’ve been lurking since last December when a friend forwarded a link to the thread about Scylla waterboarding himself. I couldn’t decide whether to be thoroughly impressed, or whether I’d stumbled onto a board where insane people hang out. Now that I’ve been lurking for a while, I realize this board tends to draw people who are that rare mixture of intelligent and insane.

I like that.

As for me, I’m not sure what to say. I probably fall more on the insane end of the spectrum, although you’d never catch me attempting to waterboard myself. Which isn’t to say I haven’t done crazy things involving water. When I first bought my house, I managed to turn a leaky basement faucet into a gushing geyser on a Saturday night. That caused enough mental anguish that I now hire a plumber when I see something leaking. I’m good at writing checks.

Howdy!

I have a soft spot in my heart for people who write cheques - at least, when the cheques are for someone else’s bank account, anyways.

Please make yourself comfortable. Someone will be along shortly with the introductory squid… trust me, it’s really not as bad as it sounds, once you get accustomed to the ooze.

Ah, Welcome!

Here, hold this …

Lavender blue dilly dilly
Lavender green
If I were king dilly dilly
You would be queen…

I dunno where that song came from, but I remember it.

Hello and welcome!

::looks around the thread::

So, Hal hasn’t arrived with the RoboGoat[sup]TM[/sup] yet?

2nd Grade music class. Same book as had that “Tingolayo” donkey song.

Strange days indeed.

There is a fine line between insanity and intelligence, not unlike the one between stupid and clever.

Hello Lavender Blue, did you bring pie?

Thanks for the welcome!

Squid are really cool creatures, so I can live with the slime. Anyway, squid come in handy for fending off RoboGoats. Or is it that squid come in handy for lubricating RoboGoats? Hmm. Must check the SDMB owners manual to determine how worried I should be.

As for Lavender Blue, I’ve been trying to figure out what to use for a screen name and couldn’t come up with something that wasn’t already taken. I’m in the middle of home improvement projects, though, and have been having trouble deciding whether to use lavender or blue paint.

As soon as I created my account, I realized my error. Oh no! This is SDMB. I should have Googled Lavender Blue to make sure it wasn’t associated with something horrible like “I’m a big hairy troll you should all throw squid at.” That’s when I came across the song. I guess that’s no so bad, although it’s not exactly my style.

Of course! I made blueberry, and there’s also key lime. Help yourself.

Hello** Lavender Blue**. Be welcome. Enjoy your stay!

Welcome!

But you probably should know that there is a Charter Member, LavenderBlue (no space). That might cause confusion at some point.

Oh man! That’s the hard part–when you’re lurking, you don’t have access to the Members list. In fact, I can’t even follow the link you gave–says I don’t have permissions as a guest to go there.

Unless it is a problem with the mods, maybe I can keep it for now, and then if the board goes to free posting or I decide to subscribe, I’ll be able to look through the Members list to make sure I don’t pick a duplicate and ask them to change it.

Mods, if it is a problem to keep it for now, let me know and maybe someone can help me make sure I pick something that won’t cause confusion.

So I’m not crazy. I was certain LavenderBlue was a member here. So, what shall we call our new member? Lavender Blue II? Lavender Two?

I feel like that penguin in the Far Side cartoon where he’s in the middle of the penguin colony saying “I’ve gotta be me!”

Would someone mind looking to see if Lavender Falcon is unique and unlikely to create confusion? If it is unique, how do I ask a mod to change my name? I don’t have PM access as a guest.

Thanks! And thanks again for the welcomes.

Me, too. I kept thinking… surely this person has been around here awhile?

Well, whatever. Lavender, blue, periwinkle, whatever you call yourself, hello.

OK so you brought pie but where the hell is the beer?

Lavender Falcon seems to be available.

Send an e-mail to TubaDiva@aol.com. If she agrees to the name change, she’ll take care of it for you.

Bienvenue !

Is the lyric “Tinga-laaaaaay-o, run little donkey, run.”??? If so, wow. Wayback Machine.

Welcome, Lavenderblue!
