I don’t really see a point to joining the game related steam groups, unless it’s an obscure game that doesn’t have many players, in which case you can coordinate setting up games that way.
Is there some sort of shortcut or trick to Yu Yong I’m not aware of? The world record score is around 3:06 or 3:08 IIRC and some of us are getting what seem like really good times in the 3:20-3:22 range. I can’t imagine it’s possible to shave 12-14 seconds off my best run, unless there’s some sort of shortcut somewhere.
I don’t think the top score is exploiting or anything either - there aren’t 1 or 2 time way out there, but 50 or so times under 3:16.
I think I remember him being behind me during the whole race (on one of my mediocre runs nonetheless) but miraculously ending up with a better score.
And don’t group me in with you lame 3:20-3:22 rangers. I’m a whole two seconds ahead of you guys!

This week I’m going to give something else a try. Instead of 3 different tracks, we’re gonna do 1 track with 3 different vehicle types, so you can learn the ins and outs of one track really well, but you have to use different techniques for the different vehicles.
The track will be Ladang Mine Run. The car types will be Rally, Rallycross, and T1 trucks.
If you don’t have that much time to participate, then just pick whichever 1 vehicle type is your favorite and try to set a time there, otherwise you should be able to get good times with all 3 since you’ll learn the track well.
It looks like we’re gonna have a big dirt 2 game on saturday afternoon. I’ve been asking around to see what time works for people, and it looks like 6pm eastern/3pm pacific is a decent time for everyone. I’ve got “I’ll probably be there” from Me, Kinthalis, Pilot141, Mutton, Trope, and F14Squalls so far. If we can get 2 more people we’d actually fill up a game, which would be great… we could play around with the team mode since people wouldn’t be constantly coming and going. So if anyone else is interested, then would be a good time. Or if you’ve been thinking about getting the game…
You probably all know, but as a reminder we’ll be using ventrilo for voice chat since the live (in-game) voice chat sucks badly. It’s free and easy to set up, plus you can bind the push to talk key on any controller you have, or configure the thresholds and volumes for voice activated mode. Even if you don’t have a mic, you’ll still want to hear everyone else.

That went well, we got 6 of us together Saturday and 5 Sunday. It was a lot of fun, we definitely need to get the big games in more often.
The lap time competition slipped my mind, but it ends tomorrow afternoon, so do some times if you want to compete.

Ok, I’m changing it up this week. We’re gonna have 1 track and that’s it. This way it doesn’t take a ton of time to put up a half decent entry - it’s gonna be a 3.5 minute long track, so give it 40 minutes of play and you can make 10-15 attempts at it. I’m hoping we can get a lot of participation this week.
