Disabling hardware in Device Manager

Okay, so I just got a new eVGA Geforce2 MX PCI card and installed it successfully. I did not uninstall the old card since it’s integrated into the motherboard. All I could do was disable it in the device manager. If I remove it from the device manager, Windows just tries to reinstall it every time I turn on the comp since I can’t physically remove it. Now, I’m wondering if Windows loads the drivers for the old card when I boot up, and/or if the new drivers overwrote the old ones. Will this hinder performance of my new card? So far, everything is fine and I see a definite improvement. But, I’ve only had the new card up and running for about an hour and a half. If anyone has anything they’d like to share or some friendly advice feel free. . .

There should be either Jumpers on the MB to get rid of the old one, or else you have to disable it in the bios.

What stupendous man said.

If you cant to that check the properties of it in the device manager and there should/maybe be a checkbox to “disable in this hardware profile”, check that and it should keep it from initializing.

That’s what I did. So basically Windows is ignoring it, not loading it’s drivers, and it’s not using any resources?

That’s right. If it’s disabled, windows is deliberately ignoring it, so it shouldn’t have any effect. I do it all the time for my 2ndary video card–because of an annoying bug in how windows handles opengl hardware I have to disable the 2nd card. As far as I can tell, it has no real effect on performance.
