Discontinued food

Oh, I liked those.

Like everyone who shops at Trader Joe’s, I have several items I loved that they discontinued, but the only one I can think of now is the best snack ever, garlic pistachioes. Mmmm.

In my occasional childlike-comfort-food cravings, I miss Frosted Cheerios (which does seem to reappear intermittently, but never when I’m craving).

Burger King had the best fast-food chili I’ve ever had (way better than Wendy’s), especially if you had a couple of packs of Taco Bell hot sauce to put in it (Burger King never had a hot sauce).

And only 99c, too…

Odd. Even the grocery stores in my food-wasteland of a town have frozen ducks, and fairly decent quality as well. I’ve even noticed ground bison lately.

I wonder if communities that have specialty shops (like Trader Joe’s) get away with less stuff in the standard grocery stores? More than once people here have mentioned that item XX is hard to find, and I find it right up the street at the very-basic Great Frozen North grocery stores.

My list (for now):

Zantigo’s (especially the chilito)
G.D. Ritzy’s
Taco Bell’s BLT Soft Taco
McDonald’s Cheddar Melt
Burger King’s Whaler
The entirety of Chi Chi’s menu.

In the year or two since they’ve been introduced, I’ve really liked Kellogg’s Corn Flakes with a Touch of Honey. The flakes are the right light texture and they’re not too sweet (which is a problem I have with Sugar Frosted Flakes). Unfortunately, while you can still get Kellogg’s Corn Flakes with a Touch of Honey in some stores, it will not be for much longer. According to the sales tag at my nearby supermarket, the item is being discontinued. Apparently, I and a few other people were the only ones who liked this cereal.

Odd flavors of soda and Doritos not found in grocery stores are often sold in gas stations with mini-marts, or 7-11’s. I’ve always found frozen ducks, little game hens, and capons in most big grocery stores. And the ground bison is twice as expensive as hamburger, but it’s twice as good!

Speaking of Doritos… these: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=24IQlY8ONmc

Oh, Taco Bell. The Big Beef Burrito was heaven…just beef and cheese and onions in a tortilla. No beans. Why did you take it from me? Why, Taco Bell, WHY?

This falls into the I-don’t-know-if-I-want-to-admit-that-I-eat-this-crap catagory but Maruchan creamy chicken flavor ramen noodles.

A recent bout with the flu, followed closely by tree bud season sniffles sent me on the quest for a few packages of this stuff. I found that nobody had it until I got to Publix, where they were down to five packs and had a sign that stated that they were now a discontinued item.

Unfortunately, that’s one of the few flavors of ramen that I’ll eat. :frowning:

Red Baron Breakfast pizzas. Individual sized pizzas with cheese, bacon, sausage, or everything. I discovered from the guy who stocks Red Baron pizzas that you can order something like them for home delivery, but it is not the same - and we never have enough freezer room to make getting the big chunk needed to make the delivery charges pay worthwhile.

But even worse - onion bagels at Noah’s. They are discontinuing them, even though they are the biggest seller at the one near me. I wrote to them to check to see if this was true, (it is) and found that the local manager is trying to get them back also. So, if you are a Noah’s customer, go to their web site and send them email. Bagels are bad enough in the Bay Area as it is, no onion makes it worse.

Nabisco Heyday Bars-more of a mini candy bar than a cookie, with chocolate, caramel, wafer, nuts, and(I think) a touch of orange flavor.

whatever happened to the lime-chili flavor ramen noodles? And where are the plain old shrimp flavor ramen noodles?? All they got is chicken n’ beef, chicken n’ beef. Is the bad eeeconnommmmyyyyyyyy squeezing the ramen noodle empire that bad? I may have to take a road trip to the oriental grocery store.

I can tell both of you that all three of these flavors exist, and are easily found in all three of the grocery stores I go to on a regular basis.

And it’s funny you say “whatever happened to lime-chili” because all the stores around me have the lime-chili ramen with a big “NEW” printed on the package. I only just started seeing them a few months ago.

I’m more than willing to buy some ramen and ship them out for you two.

Real Jell-o Pudding pops. Not the bogus ones they have now.

Dannon used to make these frozen yogurt bars (frozen yogurt coated in chocolate, on a stick) back before frozen yogurt was “cool”. They had raspberry yogurt with chocolate coating. I’ve been thinking about them a lot lately, for some reason.

Don’t get me started on the disappearance of Planter’s Cheese Balls…

Yes! About a year or two after this dissapeared, I found a whole shelf full of it at Big Lots. It was the same product, but the printing on the packaging was all in Arabic or Sanskrit or some such craziness. I bought every box they had, for about 25 cents each IIRC. My stash lasted almost two years. I can still remember the last box on the shelf. I saved it for a long time, but I eventually gave in and ate up all of its delicious layers.

Also, a breakfast cereal from my youth: OJs. It was basically orange fruit loops with orange trix balls (the original puffy, slightly sweet balls, not the little condensed nuggets of sugar-slime they make now). I liked it.

I can get lime chili, shrimp chili, shrimp, chili flavored, beef chili and Thai chili (in various brands) here, but when I’m sick, I want bland and comforting [finishes whine].

Tell me what you want and I’ll send you some.

And bouv, I may take you up on your offer when the autumn allergies start.

Yes! I loved those.

I also miss Purple Passion soda and Milkshake candy bars.

Sigh.

We don’t know what we are going to do.

Trader Joe’s discontinued their Wild Maine Blueberry Fruit Sauce last December. We’re down to the last bottle. We use it when we make waffles (two strips of bacon on the side) with a two-thirds cup (yes, that much!) of fresh blueberries on top, all covered with Wild Maine Blueberry Fruit Sauce.

Mott’s Beefamato. In the winter we’ed heat it and mull it with sliced lemons and sliced oranges dotted with cloves. It was best warm up drink around, far better than hot cocco, tea, or coffee.
