Discontinued food

Taco Bell discontinues a lot of stuff. Like the Beefy Tostada. And please, why can’t they bring back olives as an ingredient? Did they really take that much room in the taco line? They were great in the Burrito Supreme, and the Enchirito isn’t the same without them. Taco Bell used to be a LOT better. Yeah, I still go there sometimes, but they have lost a lot of business from me as they lowered the standards more and more. i used to go once a week, now maybe once a month, if that. Way to go, bean counters!

No more Super Taco at Jack in the Box. Just regular ones. What genius came up with that plan?

McDonald’s fried apple pies.

Trader Joe’s frozen Cioppino.

On the subject of candy, do we really need both Heath and Skor? They are identical, once made by two different companies. Now that the one company has swallowed the other, what’s the point of that? Bring back something unique to fill that spot on the rack.

Wonder bread. Gone for years. Didn’t use it often, but for some things it hit the spot.

I’ll try to think of more later. Good thread!

Still put out by Interstate Bakeries, apparently.

Flat Earth used to make some yummtastic apple-cinnamon chips. The company is still around, they still make veggie and fruit chips, but the apple-cinnamon ones seem to be gone.

It’s probably a good thing, because I could eat a bag of those at a sitting and not even notice.

Yeah, I was surprised to see that listed as well. Did Wonder Bread go out of business in certain areas?

If you’re looking for ramen flavors, go to the nearest grocery store to a college campus. You’ll find every ramen flavor under the sun.

I haven’t had ramen since I was in college, but I used to love the shrimp flavor.

Wonder Bread? No shortage of it around here.

Still looking for baked ramen.

Speaking of Burger King, I miss the Big King. I always preferred it to the Big Mac.
I worked at Long John Silver’s for about a year when I was a teenager and they came out with these delicious fish and shrimp wraps. I remember the concept of wraps was still somewhat new (at least in the Midwest where I grew up), so they actually had to explain to us not to call them burritos or burrito-like. Anyway I still get cravings for them, but haven’t seem them in years.
Also jalapeno-flavored Doritos. I’m not talking about the jalapeno-popper Doritos which have an overpowering flavor of cream cheese, I’m talking about just straight-up jalapeno. Maybe it’s a regional thing. They used to sell them in Texas, but I stopped seeing them as soon as I moved away from there a few years ago.

I’m sorry to see this even though I haven’t eaten Maruchan ramen in years. The creamy chicken was so good!

Jewel used to have a 3 cheese tomato sauce under their President’s Choice brand. Apparently, my wife and I were the only one’s who liked it because it got disco’d and when we asked a manager who was nearby when we were shopping, he said that it had poor sales compared to the other sauces.

What was that burrito that Taco Bell had with the little fried potato pieces in it? That thing was pretty awesome.

I am so craving a chilito right now, thanks to your post.

TJ’s “Stone Ground Corn Chips” were the best. I don’t know if they got them from the same place that made “Indian Corn Chips”, but both varieties are long gone.

I miss Space Food Sticks, too.

That, and “Shake-a-Pudd’n”.

Me, too. Me-freaking-too.

And the bitch of it is that Zantigo’s is still open in some parts of the country (http://zantigo.com/), just not anywhere near where I live. Damn it. To hell, even. Lordy, what I would do right now for 2 chilitos (one red chili, one green), a green chili burrito, and an order of their nachos with real melted cheese. ::Sigh::

Also, one other item I forgot the other day: Peglegs from Long John Silver’s.

Also also: Taco Bell’s Bell Beefer. And Arby’s, when they used to actually serve real roast beef, and not the pressed, processed Frankenbeef that they sell now.

  1. The “Jack-Steak” sandwich from Jack-in-the-box. It was a cube-steak, oval, on a hoagie bun. It had bbq-sauce, onion rings and shredded lettuce on top and it was so very, very good.

  2. I’d kill to remember the name of this product. Mid-to-late '70s. Came in a box. You took a 9x9 cake pan and mixed melted butter with included crumbs (pre-crushed–the flavor I’m thinking of had crushed oreo-like cookie crumbs) to make a “pie-crust”. You then mixed a pudding/custard mix with water (the oreo-flavor had a lemon flavor custard/pudding) and chucked it in the freezer and then cut it into squares–it was like a frozen cheesecake in terms of texture. I loved that stuff…totally loved it and no-one I know has ever heard of it.

Hmmm, I just made a Jello No-Bake cheesecake yesterday that sounds very similar to this. I would think putting it in the freezer for an hour or so would give you the same taste. I believe they have Oreo versions of it as well. I found it at Walgreen’s on the discount aisle.

When was that? I worked at Arby’s in the early-80’s and it was processed Frankenbeef then as well.

My vote goes to that cereal with the alien in a beanie. I thought it was called “Quix” or something similar, but my Google-Fu is lacking this morning. :frowning: It used to be in all the grocery shelves in the Metro Atlanta area back in the 70s, and I don’t think I’ve seen a box in 25 years. :frowning:

Late 60’s, early 70’s. They used to have a huge hunk of beef slowly roasting on display. And you could watch them carve the meat directly off the roast to make up your burger.

That’s how it was at the Arby’s near the Livonia Mall outside Detroit circa 1969. It was delicious!
