Discontinued food

There used to be this frozen yogurt/granola combination that was sold pre-mixed in the late Eighties that was SOOO good. It came in little oval containers and had Fruit in the name. I want to say Fruitola but I’m not 100%.

New York brand flavored seltzers - I loved all the berry versions.

Yeah, I haven’t seen Wonder Bread since I’ve been here. The ‘generic’ bread is Franz’s. There’s a stand-alone Wonder – bakery? Outlet? – Small place, anyway – in Bellingham that I need to go to sometime.

Jolt cola seems to be gone. I used to mainline the stuff. They downsized from 24.5 oz down to 16oz. Now I have a hard time finding it.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Since 2007, I’ve been noticing that the “nice” big general grocery store will stop carrying a similar product to Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s, and vice versa. For example, the only place that has refried black beans that aren’t with lard (aka they’re vegetarian) is Trader Joe’s. It’s like they don’t want the competition or they’re being beat out, who knows.

I was just mourning the loss of Rice Krispie Treats cereal, but oddly enough it’s on Amazon for $4.50 a box, minimum order 4 boxes. The crazy thing is that on the actual GM Rice Krispies website, it has a whole list of their products and nowhere does it list the Krispie Treats cereal. I won’t buy it since it’s not on their main website. I wonder about the expiration dates on the Amazon stuff…

Macadamia/cashew nut butter sounds amaaaaaaazing badbadrubberpiggy. I miss it and I’ve never even had it.

Snapple Diet Plum-a-Granate Tea. The best. Short-lived. <whimper>

Taco Bell’s Enchirito. Perfect mix of enchilada and burrito.

Yes, yes, a thousand times yes to both Quisp cereal and Sambo’s restaurant!

I miss Carnation breakfast bars and also a snack food called “American Fries”. They were fried potato things that looked like french fries and they came in a blue box with a picture of a revolutionary soldier (possibly George Washington). I last remember them around 1976 so maybe they were a temporary promotional item to coincide with the bicentennial.

And I know it’s said every time we have one of these threads but dammit, I want all three original Doritos - plain, taco and the old nacho cheese. Doritos suck now:mad:

Yes, indeed. I could go for an enchirito right now. That was when Taco Bell had just six items on the menu.

Also, much better than Pop-Tarts:

Danish Go-Rounds

Believe it or not we still have them in the twin cities.
Zantigos!

Just thought of another: Pillsbury’s Funny-Face drink mixes.

Remember Chinese Cherry and Injun Orange?

Other flavors include: Freckle Face Strawberry, Goofy Grape, Loud Mouth Lime and Rootin’ Tootin’ Raspberry.

In 1966, Chinese Cherry was changed to Choo Choo Cherry, and Injun Orange to Jolly Olly Orange.

BANKRUPTCY attorney. I’m in the process right now.

But no offense taken, I can see how you might arrive at the conclusion you did.

Macaroni Grill’s Bella Napoli Appetizer. Essentially Italian Nachos. So good, and so gone… :frowning:

Oh yes!

Relatively recent, PepsiCo is re-packaging the SoBe drinks into plastic bottles, and have discontinued the SoBe Lean Energy drink (for the time being at least). Something like 12.5 calories a bottle and a decent flavor? Who needs that?

KFC Chicken Littles (about the size and shape of a White Castle slider). The best item ever on the KFC menu. I remember eating a bunch during Super Bowl XXII in 1988, so it’s been a while.

Soft frozen pretzels; the brand may have been “Pennsylvania Dutch”. Why these went away while the far, far inferior Superpretzel caught on, I’ll never know. These were like homemade Auntie Anne pretzels.

A few years ago when the Atkins Diet fad was peaking, Coca-Cola came out with Coke C2, which I think was being marketed as low-carb. It had about half the sugar that regular Coke has, and made up the difference with a cocktail of artificial sweeteners.

After trying it a couple of times, regular Coke began to taste just too damn sweet and syrupy, and I pretty much switched to C2 as my cola of choice. I had a reliable supply up until 2006, when my job moved to a different office with new vending machines, and by then it was pretty much nowhere to be found in stores.

Nabisco Twigs - the cute little finger-sized cheese/garlic/sesame sticks.

Every time I go to the store, I stand in mourning at the wall of Nabisco in disbelief. They have 12 varieties of Triscuits, 16 varieties of Wheat Thins, and more shapes, sizes and fillings of Ritz crackers than are really necessary. Yet, somehow, when one cracker variety had to go, they chose the Twigs, the most unique cracker of the bunch. I keep waiting for their return, hoping someone at Nabisco will realize the horrendous error they made when they axed the Twigs. But instead, the battle for cracker world domination continues between the Triscuits & Wheat Thins, leaving no room for my favorite.

Well. I’d forgotten about these completely. They were really pretty damned good, if a bit on the salty side. Still, good as they were, they don’t measure up to my current absolute favorite order of nachos: Champp’s Mile High Nachos (http://tinyurl.com/yb8olqs). If these ever go missing, I might just have to consider seppuku.

Used to be a flat cookie, filled with raisins, I think it was called Golden Fruit. Can’t get those any more.

A second to the Dannys, the frozen chocolate covered yogurt on a stick. A slight detour: When I was growing up, anything vaguely resembling sweets was on a special case and need-to-have basis, given out in responsible reasonable quantities. After you ate your vegetables and not before. Flash forward a few decades. My kids return from spending the night at Grammy’s and report they had Dannys for dessert **after breakfast. ** What! Where is my mother and what have you done to her? Dessert after breakfast? WTF? I never got dessert after breakfast. Next time, my daughters ask Grammy how come they get dessert in the morning when their mom didn’t. “Oh, well,” says Grammy. “I guess I’m just getting old and foolish.”

Do they still have those Taco Town tacos?
