Likewise I don’t see the problem with writing in your LiveJournal what you want to write. It’s certainly not worse than sniping about someone here long after they’ve been banned, as they have no way to respond here.
gobear, I personally regard LJs as being more like a way to blather on about what’s going on in your life and share it with people, more than a “this is my secret private journal - never mind that it’s on the web”. Sort of like your own MPSIMS to share with friends.
And yes, Ferret and gobear, your LJ can be as private as only you can see it, to as limited as only specifically named people can see it (other LJ users), to as public as anyone can see it, LJ user or not. Trust me, there’s a lot more to my journal than most people can’t see. In a real way I keep tabs on what’s going on in some of my friends’ lives by reading their LJ’s. Yes, a phone call or dinner is always nice, but in between, I get to know what’s going on. I enjoy it.
I dunno, I agree to an extent with BBJ; it seems to me like she’s basically just saying that it’s rude and wrong to bitch about someone behind his or her back. And I can’t disagree with that.
I’m not sure that “anonymous poster A is bitching about anonymous poster B behind B’s back, and I think that’s wrong” and, for example, “Fenris is bitching about Scylla behind Scylla’s back, and that makes Fenris a jerk” are really equivalent.
Of course, I could just be missing the big picture; I have a habit of doing that.
Nope it’s not just lj’s it’s lj’s that are linked through the sdmb community… shit, if it’s your lj, say what you want, but if I can read your journal through the sdmb community/friends, then that’s different.
I’m sorry, I wasn’t sighing at you. Just at the topic in general. Fighting hatemongers and other human scum on other fora is tiring and discouraging, but if no one takes the time to expose them for what they really are, then they can keep on being a threat to others. Thankfully they can’t hide on LJ either, as one of my friends from the RoD Board can read pretty much any LJ he wants to.
I have a difficult time believing that the only place some one can find to vent about stuff is on a web site that is open to the public unless that was the attraction.
gotta gripe about “Poster A” from SDMB? bring it to the pit. Don’t want to do that? email your friends, talke (god forbid) to them IRL, etc.
As was noted, there are aspects of Live Journal that aren’t open to the public, I can’t help but think that the whole "it’s out there for them to see if they ‘chose’ " isn’t part of the attraction.
I’ve known about Fathom, G’Dope, Unaboard and LiveJournal. ONly post at one. Rarely look at the other two.
But the membership amongst the 5 places is so overlapping, that it’s disingenuous to suggest that some rant about an event from SDMB wasn’t posted w/an intent to air it where the object could potentially see/hear about, but not necessarily be able to respond.
I’m not always at my most mature best, but - hell it’s good to be out of junior high school
Guin Nope it’s not a problem on the lj that I’m bringing here, it’s the fact that the person being talked about rarely knows that it’s being done. It;s more a bunch of sniping about someone and patting each other on the back about things done/said to that person.
I like it when I come across “behind the back” sniping. Gives me a glimpse into the character of the one doing the sniping. Shows me who not to trust. Even if that person is nice to my face, what’s to stop him or her from snarking at me when I’m not around?
