There’s probably a secret rider in the sales agreement that Disney, may not, for any reason, contradict anything that Lucas himself produced, or all rights immediately revert back to George.
I think the main problem with Hollywood is the people who make the decisions (or at least control the purse strings) don’t understand at all why The Avengers was successful.
Ah, the “Dallas” maneuver. Well played, sir.
Hey, Joss can’t direct everything.
For it to really be the Dallas maneuver, wouldn’t Anakin have to wake up and find Padme safe in the shower?
I find I’m liking this idea more and more.
I kinda hope they’ll do this. Not because I’m necessarily down on the EU, but it’d just be kinda neat to have a completely blank slate.
As they’re not going to do that, I’ll also vote for removing Eps. 1-3 from the canon, something else they’re not going to do. Though, do they have “line item” power? They could go all George Lucas on those things–completely excise Jake Lloyd from the first movie, re-write all of the dialogue and have every re-record it, but with (four-part harmony and) feeling this time, CGI lipsync everyone to the new lines, turn Jar-Jar Binks into a bad-ass space pirate, record completely new scenes to insert–it’d be great!
It can still be Yoda waking up to find her in the shower. Less Hayden Christiansen. It’s a good thing.
Even better: Aayla Secura waking up to find her in the shower.
My list of “must-keep as canon” things in the EU is remarkably small. The first two KOTOR games, the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight games, and maybe Crimson Empire.
A lot of people will say Zahn’s first trilogy is sacred, but I’m on the fence about them. I really like Thrawn and Mara Jade (and Paelleon), but the actual stories are kinda meh. And all that clone nonsense (especially that they have names with extra vowels) can be thrown out the window.
When I saw the subject line for this post I was hoping 12 SW nerds had finally gotten jobs.
I dunno. I liked his clone nonsense better than Lucas’s clone nonsense.
A-HA! The old Order 66 Clause trick!
The only POV this makes any sense from is Dark Horse’s.
LucasFilm isn’t going to give Dark Horse permanent control over any part of their IP, OR willingly reduce the potential value of the IP for future licencees by creating a competitor for them, which is what this would be doing.
The KOTOR era is so far in the past compared to the movies I doubt Disney will care one way or another whether its canonicity is nixed or not.
