This page gives a list of conditions for filing a pro se divorce in Illinois.
These seem a little restrictive, IMHO. Is there no provision in Illinois for a non-contested divorce where the parties agree to everything beforehand? For example, there are no children and there’s no need for either spouse to support the other. I give Mrs. HeyHomie everything but for my PS2, some DVDs and some clothes, and call it a day.
Do I still need a lawyer, a hearing, and all that jazz?
I agree that they seem restrictive. Looks like if you a) own a house, b) have been married over 5 years or c) make more than 25K combined a year, you can’t file pro se.
If you truly do agree on everything, I wonder if there’s a possibility of using the same lawyer? I have no idea if that’s possible in Illinois; I’ve known a few people elsewhere who were able to use one lawyer, mainly as a formality and to do the paperwork.
Of course, this is all strictly technically speaking. It’s not a recommendation/endorsement of pro se divorce (I handled my own. That’s for a MPSIMS thread some day.)
Mate pre nups in OZ don't count either. Signed or not. don't matter. The Bitch gets the lot, and as the Kiwi's say you can go and call he . It's a polite way to say that your f***** Sorry but your not on your own.
I got divorced in Illinois. We had no kids, no property, nothing to split. I took my books, my cd’s, and my clothes. I got a lawyer who wrote everything up, mailed it to her, she signed and mailed it back. I went to court (she stayed home) and the judge asked me if I agreed to everything. I said yes, and that was it.
