DIY and Hobby projects, small to big. Pictures of course

It’s nice, although smaller than yours (16”). I got a nice deal by buying a show machine.

For those reading along that don’t know bandsaws, abcdefghij is driving a Ferrari, and kindly saying his ride is smaller than my Ford Expedition

ETA, I think the resaw is taller on yours though, right? The Rikon has 13" of resaw and the Minimax has 16". Which is a heck of a wide slab.

These days, I think you’re right, but mine’s old enough that the resaw is also 13”.

Maybe it’s an Alfa Romeo.

Still a step up from my “Ford”

I finally finished the kitchen remodel (at least 95%).
This is how it looked when we bought the house (these are from the listing):

This is how it is now:

The work consisted of:
• Rearranging the existing cabinets.
• Moving the fridge (and upgrading it).
• Moving the range and microwave, which required moving a sub panel and cutting a hole the wall for the exhaust fan.
• Changing the light fixtures.
• Moving the dishwasher and installing a new one.
• Installing a new countertop. The countertop got damaged when I moved it up here, so I had to spend a couple of days carefully epoxying it and reinforcing it. The repair isn’t invisible, but it’s OK.
• Installing a new sink and faucet and disposer. The hardest part was removing the old cast-iron sink by myself. The next-door neighbor help me lift the 11’ long countertop into place.
• Spackling and painting all the drywall repairs.
• Installing new flooring and baseboards.
• Installing two new cabinets to fill the holes left by moving things around.

Other than the help with the countertop, I did everything myself.

Nice! I like the floors; really toned the yellow down.

Thanks!
The original floor in the kitchen was sheet vinyl. The house was a rental, so I can understand why the chose it, but the particular pattern they used was pretty ugly.

Nice job! I Iove how much space you have in there!

It’s decent sized, but the pictures make it look bigger than it is. We think it’s too small as an eat-in kitchen, but it works well for meal prep. It was originally staged with a table, but I think that would be cramped.

Looks great, that was a lot of work! Well done!

Gotta ask about that boarded up window, is there an addition or garage on the other side?

Perfect spot for a panoramic picture/painting of the local countryside. Replace the view that was lost?

Or an OLED TV with nature views?

Kitchen reno looks good! Well done! I also like how the new floors look. What kind of flooring is that?

I’m not sure that a TV right above the sink would be a good idea…

They do make TVs rated for the outdoors but yeah, that was a little tongue in cheek, I think the focal distance would be too close to use as a virtual window.

The telephone on the wall kept the place together, now you’ll have to find a suitable rug.

I have one with a urine stain on it, if you’re interested.

Quick little 24 hour Display Shelf Project.
I had a small space to store some additional oversize D&D figures.

So I looked into what I had on hand and designed up a 30"x19" unit with 6 shelves in all.

  • Old 3/8" plywood that I think were once closet shelves in the kitchen before the redo.
  • A fair amount of cheap screws,
  • some semi-gloss white trim paint
  • one piece of 30"x23" butcher paper from my old roll folded and stapled to the back to brighten the shelves up.

Actually designed, built, painted and hung in about 21 hours. Fun little project.

Partially loaded new shelf and relieved overcrowding on the old ones.

@beowulff, your kitchen project came out great.

LOL.
Some previous owner added a main bedroom on the other side of the kitchen wall. That used to be an exterior wall, and for some baffling reason, they didn’t completely remove and re-drywall the old window frame. We are probably going to hang a custom photo in the frame.

The new bedroom has a huge soffit, and my guess is - they just boxed in the existing roof overhang. I can’t imagine it would save any money or effort, but - that’s what they must have done. The mini-split is mounted on the soffit. (You can also see the partially-obscured window frame from the kitchen)

So, we live with it.

It’s “Floret” LVP. We used their more expensive (thicker) version in our Arizona house, and were very happy with the look and the durability. This product is cheaper and thinner, but still seems pretty rugged, and It’s DIY-able. I installed it throughout the main house (haven’t gotten to the bedroom yet).

Does it already have the stain on it, or could someone request a custom job?

That’ll cost extra
