. But this isn’t about some arbitrary insult. It that that particular word (ok, somewhat arbitrarily although it’s fitting) has been choosen for a particular bannable offense.
And I would disagree with Smeghead, it’s not board history, it’s board policy.
You might MEAN when you call someone a troll that they are short and nasty and live under a bridge. But according to current nomenclature you’re saying they are violating board rules and deserve banning. It may be an arbitrary word choice, and might be difficult if you really want to tell someone you think they gnaw bones and are bug eyed…but to call them that here means something else.

I think DNFTT is a good rule. And in my lucid moments, I think ignoring the idiots is a good rule too.
Unfortunately, I (and, I think, many others) find it hard to ignore the idiots. There’s that banner up at the top of every page reminding me that fighting ignorance is a good thing, and I keep thinking that maybe, just maybe, this time it’ll sink in. Plus, sometimes there’s good entertainment to be had watching them be verbally disemboweled.
And there are so many flavors of idiot to wonder at: New Iskander. Updike. VCO3. Andrewdt85. Much like the “secret ingredient” of an Iron Chef battle, each one brings something unique to the table.
