Do Atheists deserve respect?

**gnosis:[/b
[Greek gnsis, knowledge, from gignskein, to know; see gn- in Indo-European Roots.]

gnostic:
Of, relating to, or possessing intellectual or spiritual knowledge.

A believer in Gnosticism.

gnosticism
The doctrines of certain pre-Christian pagan, Jewish, and early Christian sects that valued the revealed knowledge of God and of the origin and end of the human race as a means to attain redemption for the spiritual element in human beings and that distinguished the Demiurge from the unknowable Divine Being.

But you really will learn more from reading Thomas Huxley. The roots of a word do not always convey its meaning.

Axioms are not faith-based.
It is axiomatic to postulate a God. It is faith to take someone’s word on what that God is like without sufficient evidence. Strong atheists both reject faith and maintain a strong axiomatic belief system.

If we are to always reduce axioms as a subset of faith then I suppose that you are correct. I personally find that to not be the case in any common use of “axiom”.

Mods, a little help?

Spiritus:

Sorry…I forgot to respond to this in my last message. I would now like to take a moment to outline my views on this subject.

(ahem)

Huh?:o

Sorry…I’m not familiar with the terms. If you’ve got a couple minutes, would you mind familiarizing me, or directing me to a source where I might familiarize myself?

Thanks for the information on gnosticism.

Polycarp, though I find your definition of “faith” to be a little loose, overall you’ve seemed to have gotten the gist of what I, and others, have been saying.
Thanks for listening.

Is this kind of like formulating a self-cancelling equation that thereby disproves all of existence?

Complete with a quote by Thomas H. Huxley.
