It’s worse. I bought OoT when it wasn’t a free bonus. I bought WW when I bought the system and someone told me I should play OOT first.
In truth, I shouldn’t criticize anyone’s game buying. I have a bad habit of buying games and playing them for 10 minutes total. Anyone want a copy of Nascar Thunder 2003?
Come on, KidCharlemagne. Metroid Prime is the best game that ever hit the Game Cube! Retro Studios has done a wonderful artwork, even not being japanese themselves. The atmosphere is great, the whole world is amazing and it really catches the spirit of its predecessors. I don’t think it twice to say it.
Believe me I know I’m in the minority. The atmosphere certainly is interesting - they do a great job making you feel completely alone on an alien world. The music is cool, the graphics are nice. Didn’t play the predecessors. What to say? I just find it tedious to keep backtracking over the same areas, killing the same monsters again and again. The monsters aren’t difficult, just an annoyance really. I’ll admit, the bosses are difficult. Maybe I’ll throw it in again and give it another spin.
The Japanese are crazy. We need to bomb them again. (My review of Super Smash Bros. – equivalent of two stars.)
Simpsons Hit and Run… meh. Kind of fun. Kind of not.
I’ve got particular tastes…
The GameCube is a good system, and it definitely has a better ratio of good games to crappy games than the Xbox or PS2. Unfortunately, the PS2 has 3 or 4 times as many titles, so there are still a lot more good games on the PS2.
I find the GC’s controller more comfortable than the PS2’s, and the WaveBird works a lot better than the Pelican wireless PS2 controller.
I agree that this one is overhyped… I like a little scariness in my horror games. The Silent Hill games have a creepy atmosphere that fills the entire game, and a certain scene in SH3 in the alternate hospital, involving a mirror, a bloody sink, and a reflection that isn’t quite right spooked me so much that I couldn’t play for the rest of the night.
Eternal Darkness just has a bunch of “gotcha!” thrills. While they’re inventive, they’re also utterly transparent - ha ha, I’m walking on the ceiling, can I get back to playing the game now? The only time I was actually shocked was when I opened the menu and all my items were gone! Or were they…?
But I’d still recommend the game. I don’t find the combat tedious at all, and it’s worth replaying at least twice, because 1) there are two special items you probably won’t find the first time, 2) the combat is different in many ways because you fight different alignments of enemies, 3) the first few levels are different when you only have one or two alignment runes, and 4) you unlock features and get to hear more great voice acting.
Whoa. You are aware that you can slow down time, speed up time, and zoom in, right? Those add whole new dimensions to the game.
