Wow, I wish it were that easy here. Mine has been almost two years since we split and has cost me 10,000 already… He took literally everything when he left, except for the cutlery, oh yeah and the pig tea pot he gave me for our fifth anniversary lol… Just waiting for the property settlement and then voila it will finally be over. BTW, neither of us contested the divorce.

I would defer to the comments of someone who knows more about this area, but if you have, mightn’t you want to get a tax-clearence certificate from the IRS/state taxation bureau, indicating that neither one of you owes back taxes? Joint filing can trigger joint liability, if I understand the system correctly?
