Do kids get spankings for their birthdays anymore?

We used to get a ‘birthday spanking’ when I was younger. One whack for every year “…and one for good luck!” Now, they weren’t hard whacks, mainly just for some sick traditional sense. Most kids parties I went to had it up until age 9 or 10.

Now, I don’t think I’ve even heard of this being done these days. Is it? Or is this a dead tradition?

I hope not! Today’s my birthday!

Oh, wait, you said KIDS.

I’ll have to ask my son. I remember giving/getting birthday punches, and then a pinch to grow an inch.

I remember this. Did you do “the bumps” as well? Hold the person by their hands and feet, and throw them up in the air, one time for each year.

There was also a thing we used to do in our village called “beating the bounds”, where a load of people went round the borders of the parish, and at each corner they’d beat a child. (In my day, they only beat them with a £5 note, which the child then got given, but in ancient times I think they spanked them).

Happy birthday, Gundy!

:slap: :slap: :slap: :slap: :slap: :slap: :slap: :slap: :slap: :slap: :slap: :slap: :slap: :slap: etc.

And they wonder where masochists come from.

“Congratulations, little Jimmy! Your present is… A SPANKING!”

“YAY!”

No, in today’s anal-retentive (no pun intended) society, the kids get put in “time-out” for (age + 1) minutes.

My friends and relatives still do this to their kids. So far, no other parents have shrieked in horror so it must be pretty typical…

My friends and I used to do that too. There was a word for it but I forget what it was. But once we started getting up into the late teens, between all of us being a little bigger and the numbers being a little higher, the tradition sort of died out. But back in the day it was a definite – on your birthday, any and all of your friends had the right to punch you in the shoulder age+1 times.

Yeah, some kids at my high school got in trouble a couple of years back (maybe like 1997, so not really completely in the Stone Age, but I think before I started high school) for giving another kid a “birthday beating.” I don’t remember whether it was consensual or not, but it was some kind of tradition.

Why was it ever introduced to spank someone for their birthday? Oh yeah and don’t forget “the pinch to grow and inch”

Well I know at our high school, the boys still give eachother birthday beats, the school tries to stop it because it’s a form of harrasment etc, and they do indeed get a little vicious, I know at least two kids who have cried because of this.
I 've learned to stop telling people it’s my birthday.

Ahh, birthday licks. Licks meaning hitting, not licking. One for each year, and maybe one to grow on. It happened sometimes, at least in grade school. It got less common by high school, and I don’t recall it ever happening after high school. Usually not too vicious.

I didn’t know people really did this. I have heard of birthday spankings, but only as a joke. I never experienced it (for the record, I’ll be turning 21 in a couple months  ).

No.

These days we just break out the four-way mink-lined restraints, molten wax, and the plastic pig masks.

when i was a kid, i also got a spanking for everygood year…but it was a daily basis

I never got a birthday spanking, but we had the “bumps”. My friends and I did it all the way though high school, but then, we liked to do silly things for each other’s birthdays!

Today is my sister’s birthday, but she’s 800km away from me and I think it would hurt her too much (with her arthritis). It would be fun to “bump” her 20+1 times, though

lavenderviolet, be sure to post us a reminder when your birthday draws nearer.
