I’m basing this on looking at online opinion poll sites, especially vote.com. they always have results in the 80 to 90% range for the conservative point of view. also, the democrat national committee site had to stop doing online polls because they went embarrassingly toward the right.
vote.com is controlled somehow so that you can only cast a vote one time from one machine, so the picture of drooling rush limbaugh fans hitting the vote button over and over ain’t it.

An online poll is not a great way of gaging support for a candidate, even support within the online community. Over the course of the campaign season, I got several emails requesting me to go to site X and vote for Y. I’m guessing people of other political persuasions (ie conservative) did the same thing.
Well, remember that the term “most American Internet users” is tantamount to saying “Most Americans,” save for a moderate skew away from the poor. Internet use has become so widespread that making generalizations about them is like making generalizations about the whole population. It’s like asking a question about the tendencies of “People who drive cars.”
Remember also that polls where it’s up to the person being polled to contribute an answer or not to contribute an answer are not as statistically sound as polls where a random sample of citizens is contacted and asked a question. Most polls I see on the Internet are in the former category, i.e., they are self-selected groups.
I have observed that the political slant of the Internet depends on where you’re looking and what your own views are. Check out the Great Debates forum on this message board and you’ll see views from the left, right, center, and various regions of outer space.
