As a non-American woman, I have no interest in American men. And no, there is no American accent that I find sexy. When I was online dating, I chatted with a few guys from the US, and it was a case of trying to figure out if we had enough of a connection to get past the fact that they were American, not a point in their favour.
Yeah, they’re pretty cute, but 2 are more or less American/dual national I believe.
The normal Californian accent is mostly General American, which covers like 1/2 to 2/3 the country. It’s considered the most neutral, and has little variations, except for those weirdos who call soda “pop.” Many Canadian accents are similar; some Ontarians only “sound Canadian” when they’re drunk. Or say “sorry.”
Tons of Russian women fantasize about American men, at least according to my e-mail.
This wiki article at least claims it’s a distinct accent:
… but I can’t make head or tails out of it.
What I do know, is that in spite of both of us considering our accents to be “unaccented” or “neutral”, my former GF and I had very noticably different-sounding accents.
devilsknew, this is a pretty damn jerkish thing to say. Don’t do it again.

Foreign women fantasize about the idealized version of american men, like Awesome from chuck.
As an American in SE Michigan, we’ll use women’s interest as the baseline.
As an American man in Ontario, I don’t exceed the baseline unless I talk like a Michigander. I can emulate the Ontario accent pretty well, so I usually do.
As an American in Mexico, damn! Especially with my obviously-American, non-native accent. Too bad I got married. To a Mexican, in Mexico. I’m not talking about campesinas, but normal, middle-class and above people.
Thai ladies get all hot and bothered by fat, old, balding American men. They swear it’s true!
Farangs (Westerners) do remain somewhat popular, but I’m not sure if Americans per se were ever on top, so to speak. There was a time when farangs were all the rage, because there was a perception we did not beat our wives or fool around, and that’s no joke. In recent times, Japanese men became more sought after, but after a series of spectacular abuse cases made the news, the flavor of the day changed to Korean, and not just men. Anything Korean, including boy bands and TV shows. And thus it remains. But farangs are still popular to some extent, due mainly, I think, to what has been mentioned earlier, fantasies of being whisked away from all of this to a Western country.
British male here, now resident in LA.
I can’t say I’ve ever heard a British woman ever express in an interest in American men because of the accent.
I’ve heard women say that they find Italian, Spanish, French and some Latin American guys very sexy.
One is American, one grew up in America, and yours truly lived there for 5 years and would make devilsknew jump through extra hoops just to uphold national traditions
When my wife was growing up in China, she thought Cary Grant and Gregory Peck were pretty dreamy (okay, maybe Cary Grant is English). She also thought that tall blond guys were pretty cool.
Why I’m an American man and I can say with authority that I can and have cured almost any woman I’ve ever met from desiring Americans (and some women from desiring men).
As another American guy married to a Brazilian woman I agree with these points.
When I talk about this subject with my wife, she always mentions the “macho” male attitude and says that American men are perceived to respect women better than their Brazilian counterparts. She has always mentioned a pervasive feeling among Brazilians that Americans are, in general, colder and less friendly than Brazilians.
That said, I have found that an American speaking Portuguese is a rare thing indeed and I have little trouble striking up a conversation wherever I go in Brazil.
moves to Brazil
I’m Canadian, so it’s not a huge cultural stretch, but sure, I’ve fantasized about American men.
My longest-running must be the one where Bruce Springsteen and I head off someplace remote to woodshed some great songs for a great collaborative album, and when the strings of the guitar fall silent, well…
Bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuce!
Ahem.
As a non-rich North American, I find this a little discouraging…
Mind you, the Brazilian women I’ve met have been very attractive. (There was this one in art school who was gorgeous. Unusually, we even started to become friends a little bit. If she hadn’t smoked…)
And I have slight contact with a number of Brazilians theough the Esperanto community. I have a saying: if Brazilians are involved, you know it’s going to be sexy.
You’re rich?
I’m an American guy and my wife is Korean, but I met her here in the states and she already had a permanent Green Card so it was not a case of taking her away from her birth country or anything. Plus, her family is fairly well off.
She’s attracted to me for a variety of reasons (good thing!) but the cultural ones I perceive from her are 1) that Korean men have some chauvanist expectations*, and 2) she’s not at all attracted to “skinny bare-chested Asian boy” but would rather cuddle a teddy bear type. Which I am.
*As far as I can tell, the younger generation of Koreans has become much more westernized in their thinking regarding gender roles and such, but my wife is 47 and her view of Korean society still tracks that generation.
Oh, don’t worry, young Korean men are just as chauvinistic as the previous generation.
Me too. Except we don’t bother with the music part.
FWIW, I do love hearing about what other people think of as stereotypically American.
When I lived in Istanbul, I never noticed Turkish women expressing interest in foreign men, but Turkish men LOVE foreign women. Any kind of foreign women. I think it’s just genetic memory, since their Ottoman ancestors spent about a thousand years conquering chucks of Europe and the Middle East to get their hands on beautiful Greek, Serbian, Circassian, Albanian, Arab, Slavic, etc. women.
