Do not piss off Jon Stewart

I would have thought that was obvious after Jon brought down Crossfire on CNN, ending Tucker Carlson’s job.

Of course, that was like so four years ago, so the mavens of the 24 hour news cycle can be forgiven for having forgotten about it…

And remember during the 2004 Republican convention when they sent on this asshole Congressman from Texas with the “Kerry is the most liberal Senator” crap? Stewart, clearly prepared, but him a new one. After that various high ranking Republican party officials came on to grovel. I think they had discovered that he wasn’t just a clueless standup comic reading from a teleprompter.

At the end of his show is a disclaimer that says more or less this, in corporatese. Here’s the version on the Mad Money site.

I’ll be watching the episode in a few minutes, so if you’re responding to anything specific he said, I’ll see it shortly. Cramer’s no journalist, though, so if he’s asserting he is one, that’s ridiculous.

Not to derail this into a debate about Cramer, but I hope everybody’s seen this before.

I’m not really tha… Oh my god, look at that dog! Come here fluffy…

An updated version of the ancient proverb: Never piss off anyone who buys ink by the gallon.

I didn’t realize there was a connection between those events. How do we know that there was?

To be fair, the wikipedia article goes on:

To be even more fair, tho, it sounds like this is just an attempt to save face (by a guy who apparently looks at Les Nessman as the model of what a news reporter should be).

I still chuckle over Congresses Jewish holiday break.

“You know if we have to do this thing without Lieberman and Feingold so be it…and for fuck sake, when you get back I really hope you get to work 'cause soon it’ll Boxing Day and Kwanzaa and we’ll never get anything done!”

Oh! What day was that, I’d like to watch it.

Eh, Colbert still wins for the Press Roast of GWB. Oh, god, the Helen Thomas bit alone.

Enjoy

What’s strange is that this episode is not listed as for sale on itunes. It appeared briefly as being for sale but when I clicked on it to purchase, I was told it is no longer available. Does anyone know why this one episode is unavailable?

Cramer Vs. Stewart: The Rematch

Or to put it another way, don’t get into a war of words with a comedian. In this case a comedian with a crack staff of archivists.

I haven’t meant to defend Cramer here, it’s just that I take him for what he is: a traveling medicine show doctor of the stock market. I don’t think he’s stupid, and I think he does his homework, but if you believe the market is a casino where you’ll make it big if you’re lucky, without skills being involved, you’re probably going to be sorry. I feel bad for people who take bad advice and pay for it, and journalistically I don’t like it, but it’s also true they should know better.

Same thing happened in general during the Writer’s Strike. The writers made the studios look like a bunch of fools.

If I can carry on my conspiracy theory that no one but me cares about, I mentioned that itunes wasn’t carrying this episode on the Daily Show website and it was removed. We are through the looking glass people.

Today CNBC went on the offensive to defend its brand. It’s not helping.

Stewart did another segment tonight and threw in Joe Scarborough for his comments this morning. This time Stewart was a little nicer, he used Dora the Explorer.

According to the TDS website Cramer will be on the Thursday night show.

That’s going to be uncomfortable.

Here’s a link to that. This whole dustup is so entertaining!

Gotta give it to Cramer, that takes balls.

Does anybody have a link to Cramer on Colbert that was referenced upthread?
