Do not piss off Jon Stewart

I laughed when McCain claimed that Obama was the most liberal Senator.
Response A: “Really. Interesting how Kerry held that spot four years ago. And Clinton was the most liberal governor twelve years before that. No doubt that if it had made any sense, you would have claimed that Al Gore was the most liberal Vice President. Then again, lately you guys don’t seemed too concerned with making sense…”
Response B: “Seriously? The junior Senator from Illinois is the most liberal? More so than everyone from New England, including John Kerry, who was previously the most liberal, and Bernie Sanders, for fuck’s sake, who self-identifies as a socialist? Really?”
Response C: “Most liberal? According to whom? By what measure?”

Over here. It’s one of the weirdest things I’ve ever seen on Colbert. Sort of what you’d expect if Aldous Huxley wrote a sketch for the Report, I think.

Remember when people were concerned that the Daily Show wouldn’t have anything to talk about once Bush was out of office?

That was quite entertaining! I can’t wait to see Cramer on his show. If this is planned, it’s certainly working.

Thanks Marley23.

They certainly don’t seem to be lacking. Stewart’s already proven unafraid to go after Obama when he blunders, too.

Apparently, Jim Cramer was on NBC’s The Today Show responding to Jon Stewart’s criticism, so Stewart responded on The Daily Show last night. You can watch the segment here.

Business Cramer admitted market manipulation when he ran a hedge fund. He will regret attacking Stewart.

You’d think they’d learn after the Crossfire incident that you can’t take on Stewart. Remember when they criticized him for not reporting real news, and he responded that his lead-in show was puppets making crank calls? Cramer has an audience because he is supposed to be credible, Stewart has one because he is funny. You can kill someone’s credibility faster then their funniness.

Maybe they should give Cramer a comedy investment show on Comedy Central. Then he’d be set.

Edit to add, here’s a direct link to the story.

Bad luck for that to come out the day before he’s scheduled to go on The Daily Show. Jon will be ready for him, but if he cancels, oooooh, that won’t be good for him either. He’s in a bind. This is awesome!

That was the funniest thing I’ve seen in I don’t know how long.

I actually linked to Cramer’s market manipulation statements upthread. It’s old news: the YouTube video was posted in October and I think I heard about it long before that. Tonight should be interesting, but let’s not overlook the fact that Stewart tends to be friendly when you expect him to be confrontational (and sometimes gets confrontational when you think he’ll be friendly, as Chris Matthews found out).

It’s already looking like he’s had a comedy investment show on CNBC for several years.

Until it jumped the shark and turned into a tragedy last year.

I was thinking about that. I have a feeling that we’re not going to get even one “F*** you!” out of Stewart. :frowning: The best we’ll be able to hope for is Stewart refusing to let Cramer get away with any more bullshit, but overall I expect it to be an unsatisfyingly pleasant interview.

To be fair, his initial FU was directed at Stanford, who was gloating about being a billionaire shortly before he was accused of an enormous fraud. I lost track, but I think the second time was a self-parody and maybe the third was directed at Cramer, but it was still sort of a parody of Stewart’s own criticisms. I don’t think he’s ever cursed out a guest and I doubt he’ll start tomorrow.

I actually spoke these exact words out loud to my television last night. If you do a interview segment with MSNBC and they stick up for you and talk about his “funny faces,” he’ll do an interview with Dora the Explorer and Boots the Monkey where she calls you a pendejo and he offers to throw poo on you. The only way to win is to drop it.

He’s never cursed out a guest to my knowledge either - but let’s not forget he called Tucker Carlson a dick live on Crossfire, which was a similar form of confrontation with what is going on with Cramer…

I actually lost a decent amount of respect for John Stewart in his handling of Santelli. Santelli is about as far from a “defend-the-big-banks-screw-the-poor-masses” guy as one can get. He has been as vocal in his opposition to the bailouts for banks as he was for irresponsible homeowners. I can try to find the clip later, but I distinctly remember him getting so upset he walked off frame while discussing one of the banking bailouts. Santelli was arguing that they should slow down and come up with a rational plan, as opposed to throwing something together NOW NOW NOW! John Stewart was either ignorant of the views of the man he was smearing, or being deliberately misleading and inflammatory. As John Stewart is clearly an intelligent and thorough man, I tend to think it was choice number two. Disappointing.

But, as far as the rest of Stewart’s smear of CNBC, spot on. Cramer is a joke that, sadly, many people look to for investment advice. They should display side by side comparisons of his recommendations vs. the S&P 500 before every show. Maybe people would realize what a clown he is. But, I doubt it. B-b-b-b-booya!

Are you saying the clip was misused? Santelli appeared to encourage the traders to boo bailouts for “losers” who couldn’t pay their mortgages. Is there some other way to interpret that?
