They are welcome to try, but even in films like Closer, where she was really trying, she had the native sex appeal of Cream of Wheat.
:: shrugs ::
Tastes differ. Some people find her sexy, some don’t. I don’t find Hathaway sexy, but that doesn’t invalidate others’ appraisal of her sensuality.
I agree that Alex Kingston is simultaneously not pretty and incredibly sexy.
I can’t comment on Closer. I don’t watch movies associate in any way with Damien Rice, Clive Owen, or what’s-her-name with all the teeth, much less all three.
Bolding mine.
How often do you have to avoid movies associated with Damien Rice? And also, he’s awesome.
Didn’t you see the smiley at the end of the wisecrack?
A story came out today that supposedly Hathaway worked on her Oscar speech to make herself seem more likeable, because she was aware that she was the butt of jokes.
I don’t think she’s a bitch, but maybe part of her problem is that she overthinks things, psyches herself out and then it comes across as very affected. Compare her speech with Daniel Day-Lewis’. Both were the heavy favorites in their categories. Yet Day-Lewis sounded genuinely humble, even making a joke about Margaret Thacher, and did not come off precious and over-rehearsed like Anne did.
i think Anne Hathaway is beautiful and i don’t think there’s anything wrong with a Rachel Berry character. i did find her “it came true” comment odd though, especially when it was repeated again backstage during the Q&A, complete with a change of register(?) just for that question, before reverting to normal 5 seconds later. compare her Q&A to Jennifer Lawrence’s, where the atmosphere is totally different.
Derek Hartley, was asking why Anne wasn’t a full fledged gay Icon last August.
Most of what he posited rings true to me…

I keep waiting for the situation to turn around. Just this past weekend I went to see The Dark Knight Rises, in which (as many reviewers pointed out) her Catwoman ends up stealing more than just a pearl necklace. In one scene she not only wears a fabulous hat but punches some guy through it. It left me incredulous. She is working her ass off for us, in razor-sharp spiked heels, no less. Anne Hathaway practically demands that we love her. **I’ve seen less aggressive bids for our attention on Grindr. **So what more do the gays want?

Wow, I, I…
I love my wife very much.
(Don’t have a tv, haven’t watched any other Oscar footage - only saw a stillframe of the dress before.)
OMG that dress makes me want to go back in time and attack her with … some tailor’s tool or other. Bad boobie darts! Bad darts! Go home! Also, what asshole handler let her wear that necklace with that neckline? God, don’t these people have people to tell them when their choices make them look bad?
(Also, she needs to eat a hotdog or three - her elbows make me cringe a little. They aren’t supposed to DO that!)
She was supposed to wear a Valentino dress but ended up having to change dresses at the last minute because her co-star Amanda Seyfried was wearing something similar. But stars like her usually have a bunch of different options, so I have no idea why she went with that one.
Oh my god that dress. Why.
She’s so gorgeous when she’s at her former normal weight. Also, topless (see, Havoc and that one scene in Brokeback Mountain). At some point she decided to keep herself thinner than that, which is a shame, but it’s Hollywood and times are strange.
She’s way too thin right now because she’s recovering from starving herself down to being underweight (something completely unnatural for her) for Les Mis. And no, it’s not at all flattering and makes her features look far too large for her face. When she has cheeks, it’s not the case.
As for her actual personality, I think she’s annoying but not in a way that makes me dislike her. Just in a way that makes me want to turn the sound off when she’s talking, and emoting too damn hard. Needs to calm the fuck down and dial it back.
I don’t hate her. Not by a long shot. She’s shown quite a bit of discipline and character in her life - overcoming the depression she suffered as a teen without medication; instantly ditching her boyfriend Raffaello Follieri once it became apparent his real estate activity was a fraud despite the fact she was by all accounts deeply in love with him (she was investigated too and found to be totally innocent of any wrongdoing); having quit smoking…twice (having started up again due to stress involved in her breakup with Follieri; and her longtime involvement with a variiety of charities going back at least to the beginning of her success as an actress - and my opinion is that she’s a very strong and very fine person. I also think she’s very attractive. Like the OP, I’m at a loss as to why so many people seem to read so many negative things into her character and behavior.
Shockingly, I am 100% in agreement with Starving Artist here. It’s baffling to me that this thread exists.
And then there is, “Why would anyone pay enough attention to an actor to hate her, in the first place?”
She loves her gay brother and has nice tits, what’s not to like?
HuffPost on the Hathaway haters: Why Is Everyone Hating On Anne Hathaway At 2013 Oscars? (TWEETS, GIF) | HuffPost Entertainment
I’m considering hating Jennifer Lawrence for being cooler, funnier and more beautiful than I could ever hope to be if I lived a million years. Me and Anne Hathaway are going to go be all jealous mean girls on her in a corner.
In case anyone in this thread is updating their profile, it’s spelled: H - A - T - E - R
This kind of hatred always has struck me as sour grapes of the worst kind. I saw it on a lesser level in high school and college- the most gorgeous person wasn’t the recipient, and neither was the most academically accomplished, but woe be to some person who was the second most gorgeous, and second most accomplished who’s also likable.
It’s the crabs-in-a-pot situation all over again. It’s like the haters feel like this person has to be taken down a peg- they can’t be that pretty, successful, ambitious and NICE!
Personally, I like Anne Hathaway a lot. Prior to the weight loss and short hair, I really dug her look, but regardless, she seems like a very nice person who is trying to do the right thing. I get the impression that she’s someone I’d like to hang around with, and I can’t say that about a lot of celebrities.
I second the haters gone hate sentiment.
I started really looking at her differently after her performance in “Rachel Getting Married”. It was obvious that she wasn’t playing games with her craft and would no longer be in the leagues of the “Princess Bride Diares” or whatever those movies were.
I think the hater circle that has become the “media” , feels that Anne’s success stole something from them. She was supposed to be a mediocore actress or a Lindsey Lohan. The fact that she’s not, leaves them with little ammunition.
Not attractive. No clue as to her talent but then I don’t rate actors other than the ones on Broadway who can sing and dance. She seems marginally moronic to me as well but the movie business is a business so it amazes me that people actually care. It’s like cheering for IBM when you don’t own any stock in IBM.
