Do People Hate Anne Hathaway?

I like the fact that she doesn’t have conventionally beautiful features - it makes her more interesting. And besides, if a cro-magnon like Daniel Craig can be considered one of the sexiest men alive, I think we should cut women some slack.

Well, I guess some people think the Dark Lady is more interesting, since she’s all mysterious and stuff. And then there are the ones who picture her as an unprincipled older women who got knocked up and trapped poor, innocent young Will into marriage, but for all we know, they could have been engaged before Susanna was conceived –

Oh. Never mind.

Double standards are double. Looking cro-magnon is a lot manlier than being a pretty-boy. And unless you’re a teenage girl or a gay guy, the more manly the more sexy.

I’m pretty apathetic to her overall but I do get the sense that she shot my wife’s dog.

Now, see, a statement like that just asks the reader to make too many assumptions about how you feel about your wife, and her dog.

:dubious:

Yeah, I keep trying to figure out which one my wife is. I have pretty good evidence she’s neither.

If we’re deciding that people are annoying because they’re not good looking enough, I need to get mad at a whole lot more people.

Relevant article from Salon.

Incidentally, since I’m too lazy to check out IMDB, what movies does Hathaway have in the pipeline?

Because this post isn’t creepy at all.

Ok, what does it say about me that I wondered what people had against Shakespeares wife? I’m not an old fogey, dammit.

I don’t know, but I think she’s as cute as a button.

You and I saw it…and maybe six other people. Damn shame, as it allowed he to demonstrate a lot more range than most of the work she has gotten. And, indeed, it featured quite a bit of very high quality nakedness.

Yeah, but the female equivalent of Daniel Craig would be someone along the lines of Sophia Loren or Jennifer Lawrence. (curvy, feminine and very good looking).

I will be pissy for you if you wish.

As I said upthread, I don’t find her especially attractive; I’m a face man, so if I don’t like a woman’s face I won’t be into her. But I’m utterly mystified as to why disliking a facial feature would lead to disliking a person as a whole. I don’t even mean that I disapprove of the attitude; I don’t understand how anybody makes that leap. It’s like saying “Erykah Badu’s favorite color is green, so I curse her and all her pomps.”

No, I’d say the female Daniel Craig would be someone like Alex Kingston (currently best known as River Song on Doctor Who). Not conventionally beautiful, but sexy as hell. The opposite of someone like Natalie Portman, who is beautiful, but almost asexual.

I thought Hathaway was excellent as 99 in the Get Smart movie, and I was all set to hate her because I loved Barbara Feldon’s original 99.

I think she’s a great actress, probably one of my favorites of her age range.

I also think she believes she is being genuine, but it’s a rehearsed sincerity. One of the few times I’ve heard her speak as herself and it truly came across as personally meaningful to the point where she didn’t care about the reactions of others was when she was speaking about gay rights. (Her brother is homosexual.)

She’s had a lot of backlash recently because of her Oscar campaign… there’s nothing wrong with hardcore campaigning, but she never owned it… she was overexposed and annoyingly fake humble shtick got very old very fast.

One of my esteemed comrades will be along in a moment to argue that Portman is anything but asexual. As for me, I will only say that I decline to ever watch The Professional because I don’t want my appreciation of her as a hot chick to be sullied by knowing what she was like as a 14-year-old.
