On just the second line of “Carry on Wayward son”, it seems to me that they say “doned” instead of done.
Am I just crazy or maybe a problem of editing?
Carry on, my wayward son
There’ll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don’t you cry no more
Just 8 seconds in:
Just sounds like an emphasis on the release of the “e” to me. Don-eh.
I hear it as “done” with a very slight exhalation noise after the word.
And if I claim to be a wise man…
It surely means that you don’t know…
I’ve heard this song eleventy brazillion times and have never heard it as anything but “done”. Some of those times I was even sober.
And here I thought he was saying - gone!
I do not have the best ear for music, lyrics, or even plain old speech. I’m am much closer to the worst ear for those things but it is quite clear that the word being song is ‘done’, pronounced like ‘dun’. So my ears are worse than I thought or the OP should have their ears checked.
I just hear “done”.
Used to love Kansas. Bought most of their albums, and they were the first band I saw in concert when I was 13. One of my friends had an older sister who drove and “chaperoned” us. Then during the concert she fired up a doob and asked if I wanted to hit it. My friend who was her brother pointedly shook his head no, and being very innocent at the time anyway, I politely refused. “you sure? You’ll enjoy the concert more”. I still managed to enjoy it a lot while totally sober.
To the ear doctor it is!!
