Do women fear divorce or breakup as much as men?

For international marriages, is there a skew in the sex of the national/foreign spouses? That’s a case where a divorce or widowhood will do a number on the inmigrant spouse’s paperwork.

The cover story for the current issue of The Economist talks about the problems of male blue-collar workers in the US. Two bits:
“American men without jobs spend only half as much time on household and caring for others as do women in the same situation, and much more time watching television…
Over the past generation, middle-class men have learned that they need to help with child care,* and have changed their behavior. Working-class men need to catch up.”

  • mine: note that the phrasing itself, “help with”, implies that the man in question isn’t viewed as the or a primary caretaker, but a secondary one.

Of the 2 divorces in my family both times it was the women who initiated it.

In both cases the men didnt see it coming (but also but had been neglecting their wives for a long time) plus both women had their eyes on someone else because both moved right in with their new boyfriends.

Come to the next CleveDopeFest and I will gladly tell you in person, and in great detail, that single parenting (especially with teens, while working retail, with inconsistent child support) is much harder than having two parents in one household.
