Do women like chocolate more than men?

It’s sort of assumed culturally that women like chocolate more than men (on average) and that there are more female “chocoholics”, but I’ve never seen any hard data supporting this assumption. IIRC chocolate is a complex substance bio-chemically. Does chocolate do something for women it doesn’t for men, or is the “more women than men really like chocolate” hypothesis false?

Couples were also asked about aphrodisiacs. Almost a third (27%) said “wine and champagne” put them most in the mood for love, while 17% chose “strawberries” and 16% chose “chocolate.” Gender differences were found here as well: women were more inclined than men to choose “chocolate” (19% vs.12%).
that’s all I could find in a brief search for gender differences and desire for chocolate.

Oh, and did you know that in the chocolate industry, there are “male” and “female” chocolate bars? The male ones are the ones with nuts. No kidding.

only chocoholics and lesbians…
