I don’t buy Papa John’s because they suck. End of story. Frankly, I don’t have the time or the inclination to care about their politics. Sucky food = don’t buy.
It’s good for what it is, which is spinich alfredo. And their website only offers it with their specialty pizzas, not as an option for build-your-own pizzas. Unlike Domino’s and their traditional white sauce.
The man I live with shouts “NAZI” at the screen when the commercials come on. I never wanted to ask why. I’m not sure I understand yet.
But the food sucks. Doesn’t every town have a local indy pizzaria?
I care a little about politics, but not generally enough to change my buying habits. And if it becomes inconvenient, I’d probably change my mind. I don’t order from PJ’s, but that’s incidental–they don’t deliver to my house.
I like their pizza, but after those comments, I will never eat there again. I like that garlic sauce but its not worth supporting such a shithead. Besides, most pizza is good, there are tiny differences between them, so I’m not missing much.
Yep, most do. And some of them suck even worse.
Just cuz it’s not a chain doesn’t mean it’s automatically good.
I didn’t see an “other” - I used to buy Papa John’s pizza (in spite of the politics), but the only PJ’s that is anywhere near where I live or work closed about a year ago, amid some controversy that the franchisee didn’t pay any of the last month’s paychecks from the closed stores despite keeping three stores open.
There used to be one here 20 years ago, but they folded up. I thought it was disgusting. The crust! Flaky? and sweeeet??? Eww. It was bad pizza. There is a hole in the wall now that says ‘Papa Johns’ but its never advertised and I haven’t heard of anyone ordering from there. I certainly am not interested, even less now! There are many other much better pizza places.
I’ve never tried it, but there’s one in town now, but I won’t try it because of his politics.
Yes, this. Plus, as far as I know, all the stores around here are franchises. The owner of my local Papa John’s may have absolutely nothing in common with Papa Shithead. But I really wouldn’t know, because I’m going there for the pizza, not a civics lesson.
I bought Papa John’s pizza once, probably 15 years ago. It was utter crap, and I’ve never made that mistake again. Even if I agreed with that d’bag, I wouldn’t order another. In any case, this would be a piece of cake boycott for me, as I never intend to buy another anyway.
I have always considered Papa John’s to make the best pizza of all the national delivery chains. To me, Domino’s is scarcely distinguishable from the box it comes in. I suppose its ok if you like bland. Pizza Hut is so greasy I feel like I want to wring it out like a washrag before putting it in my mouth. My main complaint with Papa John’s is you can’t get a decent price without a coupon; I usually order online and snag one from a coupon site. As far as the CEO’s politics, I don’t really see why people are upset. The quotes OP linked basically say “if ACA becomes law our labor cost will go up, forcing us to raise prices.” Just how is that controversial?
I haven’t eaten at PJ’s in years because they’re too expensive. Their quality has also gone done since the early 2000’s. However despite this they remain the best national pizza. (I don’t eat from other national chains either FWIW.)
However, even if they lower their price I won’t start eating there again because I don’t want to be reminded of the smarmy health care hating jackass.
No, there are dozens of other good pizza places much closer to me than the nearest Papa Johns, but their politics are great. But seriously who cares anyway, if you boycott any place you don’t agree with soon you’ll be living under a rock… well until the rock pisses you off by cutting off discount bus fares for war widows.
My kids order it. I eat the box while they eat the pizza. Box is tastier.
Actually, I’m not sure I’ve ever had any Papa John’s pizza. But whether I had or not up to this point I certainly wouldn’t be helping “Papa John” maintain his mansion, multiple vehicles, and swimming pool(s) while at the same time denying his workers a living wage. So if I haven’t tried any Papa John’s pizza yet then I’m not going to in the foreseeable future.
(Seriously, where are y’all getting an edible large pizza for under $12? Cause Papa John’s *is *cheap pizza in my neck o’ the woods…)
I’m at a point in my life where if I’m feeding just myself and a couple other people, I purposely pay more than $12 for pizza that’s better than “just fine.” Papa John’s/Dominos/Little Caesars/etc. are strictly for feeding larger parties on the cheap.
I assume I share few political beliefs with second- and third-tier rich guys, but I only care when they make asses of themselves with their politics. Papa John’s pizza is okay if you don’t think of it as pizza, but there are plenty of options where the boss keeps his yap shut.
Right. Me too. When I want good pizza, I get good pizza. When I want cheap pizza, I get Papa John’s. The question was aimed at those complaining that Papa John’s has gotten too expensive. Their regular menu prices, maybe, but they ALWAYS have a Special that involves a large usually 5 topping for $12.
